GPSr Units / Re: Upload waypoints to Nuvi ... HOW?
December 13, 2009, 05:29:45 AM
Got it ... save the pictures in the media folder.  Then when you want to go to the way point select it in the favorites like Boyd showed me.  The edit and there is a selection to attach a picture.

Done!  Now that favorite point will display a picture with it.

That is pretty slick.

Another question.
How can I add a picture to that waypoint so when I select it with the Nuvi I see it?

I spent a lot of time looking for that and could not make it work.

Thanks again

GPSr Units / Upload waypoints to Nuvi ... This is how
December 11, 2009, 11:23:57 AM
Using MapSource I can create a route in the PC and upload to the Nuvi but I don't seem to be able to upload just waypoints so I can recall them and navigate to them from my current position.

Is this possible?

Added

Also ... Now that I know how to do this with favorites .. how can I associate a picture with it and send that to the Nuvi from MapSource?

The last thing I sold on eBay will probably be my last.  It was a perfect 4dTV sat receiver and I got a whopping $125 for it.  Then I got an ugly surprise when I got billed their selling fee of 8.75%.  Additionally, they now require you to list one of their electronic pay options like Pay Pal .... that's another 4% ... why even screw with ebay if you want to sell something.  It has turned into a toilet with mostly people who know squat and have a computer and software selling everything from green cheese to the moon.  The people here forget more useful information daily that most any of the "power sellers" on ebay ever had about their product.

The DeLorms SW is difficult to use but it can upload routes, etc to my GPS unit but not a map.  Their Street Atlas product is just as bad now too.

Ok ... thanks.  I purchased the products but the DeLorme PC software really sucks so I was hoping to be able to use the Nuvi with it and Map Source.  The maps themselves are fine however.

I have a full USA set of the DeLorme topo maps by region.  I subsequently bought the DVD map version.

Can this be converted so it can be used in the GPS and also in my Nuvi or imported to Map Source?

Thanks

Maybe this will help (especially the last post): http://forums.gpsreview.net/viewtopic.php?t=12443

Excellent ... I also had to copy over the documents/setting/all users/application data/Gamin folder.

Worked!

This should be a sticky on how to transfer from computer to computer.

Thanks very much.

I bought a Nuvi, got a city navigator update and installed it.  It also installed itself in my PC on Map Source ... works great.

I have a huge exe. file ... no CD.

I am going to travel and want to have the City Navigator in Map Source on my laptop so I can plan routes and download them to the Nuvi.  I have Map Source installed but when I ran the City Navigator file it did not install it in Map Source like it did on the PC.

1.  How to do this?

2.  Can I transfer registry entries, files or something from the PC to the laptop?

I don't need it on the PC so I want to move it to the laptop if possible.

Thanks

Thanks but this was not correct before.  As I said:
I had done the same installation of Map Source on the laptop as I had done on the PC.  Training center and then Map Source.  The only map it has is the bas map that comes with it ... same way the PC was.

I do not understand why it updated/created the map in the SW on the PC but did not do it on the laptop.
That is really the question and what I am seeking.

Then i would recommend you check with Garmin, they made and provided the update.

I did not know that ... I thought DeLorme made it ...LOL.

So yes MS was installed and working.  The I ran the update.  It created an image file for the Nuivi, etc and it installed all of the files on the laptop .... but Map Source does not see them.
The file you downloaded was an update file. You would need to install your City Navigator software into MapSource before running the update, or there wasn't anything to update. The software checks MapSource to see if there was a City Navigator install, and there wasn't, so it just updated the nüvi and not the MapSource software. I hope this make seance to you.

  • 1. You need to have MapSource up and running. Sounds like you did.
  • 2. You need to install your originalCity Navigator into MapSource. Sounds like you didn't.
  • 3. Run the update to update the nüvi and MapSource. Sounds like you did, but having missed step 2 you didn't get the results you were looking for.

Thanks but this was not correct before.  As I said:

Garmin let me download the map update again .. garmin_rmu_cnnant2009_1.exe ... for my Nuvi 5000.  When I ran it before on my PC it also updated the map in Map Source.

When I ran it today on my laptop it did NOT update the map in Map Source which was why I wanted it.

How can I get this map into Map Source now?  I have no idea why it automatically updated it before on the PC.

The download link at Garmin has expired unfortunately.  When I update the Nuvi it also updated the Map Source SW but I did it from my main computer.  Garmin won't let me download it again.

I have transfered the files over to the laptop and put them in the Garmin directory but Map Source does not see them.

I got the 60 day update map for the Nuvi and it installed into Map Source also.  I need to move it to my laptop since that is what I use on the road.  It is on my hard drive ... huge file.  How can I move it to the laptop and make it work?  It is OK if it no longer works on the regular PC too.  I just need one working computer.
Thanks
