Map Making Support / Re: cgpsmapper and Windows 10

Hello again, guys.

I own a copy of cgpsmapper Personal (that I used to make BigDesertSouthwest), and am trying to transfer the license to a new PC.  Alas, the Hardware finger prints don't match, so it won't work, even if the Registration Key is accepted.

Is there any way to get this transferred, and/or what are today's substitutes for a routable cgpsmapper?  Do I need to redo all my batch files for mkgmap?

Save the track at the end of each hike.  Clear the tracklog before the next hike.  Save after the next hike.  Clear before the next after that.  If you don't tell the unit when you are done hiking, it will assume you are on a multi day expedition.  If you fly cross country during your expedition, it will include the flight as part of your track.

Map Making Support / Re: "routable" hiking trails?

Just looked at this:
http://www.cgpsmapper.com/buy.htm
cgpsmapper doesn't look too promising.  When I bought it, it was the "PERSONAL" version and was reasonably priced. It's not there now.  Maybe popej can help if that's the way you want to go.

The other option is mkgmap.  It's the free IMG compiler for OSM data.   Not lockable though.

Thanks, Boyd.  If I ever get into iOS maps, this will be a fine place to start.

I don't see why you shouldn't be able to do that as long as the end nodes lined up.  "Water or Rail Ferry" looks like it would be your line type.

The maps are generally executables that need to be installed.  Did you run the installer?

Boyd, I downloaded a free (OSM) copy of Galileo to my iPhone 6.  The quality of the data for Utah is much lower than the quality of the OSM data for my area (gravel roads shown as paved and vice versa, some roads broken) , and way lower than Big Desert Southwest.  Also I didn't see any way of adding home compiled map files of any type.  Did I miss something there?

Looks like Costco has the 64s for $180 between now and Christmas Eve. :'(

But most likely, I have already purchased my last Garmin device. :( A waterproof battery case for a smartphone is starting to look like a better deal.
Feelin' a bit morbid myself...Can you recommend any iPhone 6 cases?

There was a problem with the standard installer that many mapmakers used in that it didn't create the correct registry keys for Windows 7 64 bit.

Curious that you say it's the old installer.  I've only used the 32 bit installer, and never had a complaint.

Sounds like all the easy answers are used up.  Maybe -OZ- will have something to offer.  You aren't using AVAST anti-virus are you?  That's caused some folks problems with this site.

More specifics would help.  What ISP do you have?  What medium does the ISP have to get the last mile? Fiber, radio, cable, copper?  What size is  the biggest map you've downloaded?  Big Desert Southwest about a 1 gig file.  It has had 5000+ downloads.  Can you normally download files that size?  Have you tried Desert Southwest (not Big)?  It's about half the size and has had about 8000 downloads.
