I to have been fighting this issue. Have 60CSX and just figured out it will hold only a max of 20 tracks, this seems to be the case regardless of the track data. I wish to do something similar to what you have looked to do. My conclusions:
Save numerous files with up to 20 tracks tracks each, say for a given area. Each file would in turn need to be loaded back into GPS when you need it. These are individual tracks residing in a saved file. use SAVE AS feature to do this.  "Tracks cannot be saved to SD card. None of this is clear or even stated in my manual.
The other option I'm working on is using track logs. Example, ride my ATV over a given area (if you go over the same ground more than once turn GPS off or track log  doubles) while recording the route on the gps as I move. This data becomes the daily log (amended each time you turn GPS on and off) and can be saved to the SD card if you wish. (on 60csx at least) These logs can be downloaded to mapsource, altered, renamed, saved as different file types. There seems to be no limit as to the number of logs that my unit will hold, limited only by the space available on the SD card. Logs can then be uploaded to the GPS as needed. Log size does not seem to have any restrictions as to size. Tracks, waypoints, routes, logs are separate from maps and are shown on them if you have other maps selected/loaded
Hope this is of some help as I am far from an expert on this stuff and just learning the 60CSX
Good luck.

GPSr Units / Re: 60csx track transfer ????
November 06, 2009, 11:06:58 AM
Thanks a bunch for the help and response. Have determined that this model will only hold 20 tracks max under any situation. To bad the manuals don't inform on this stuff. Realize that tracks and maps are different, was just trying the impossible I guess. Wanted to show many trails and atv roads that are in the Gila National Forest where i live and hoped to do it with "tracks" by laying them out in mapsource then viewing them on the NM Topo.  Seems the choices at this point are to save various files for different areas, each with up to 20 tracks or actually travel the various trails/roads and let the gps record the routes in the daily log so I then have something to refer to.  The logs can then be saved to the sd card unlike the tracks. Since I have not yet done that it will be my next try to see if it will actually do what I want.
Again, thanks for the help.

Not sure i understand your situation. If you have the execute file (and any associated files that expanded) on the PC why not copy  to a CD and then transfer it to the laptop. Or is that what you did? It might be you missed some files if so. You would need the original program to be installed in the laptop, then update it after it's installed.

GPSr Units / 60csx track transfer ????
November 05, 2009, 12:42:21 PM
Am not transferring all tracks when I transfer  NM topo map to the gps. Receive a signal (on gps) that says track memory full. Have added numerous tracks to NM topo directly through map source, only 19 transfer and show up in the gps. Have set up the gps to load tracks onto sd card, and the file (gpx shows up there) but all tracks are not present. The only maps loaded to gps are NM Topo and US highways from file depot.

By the way US hiways does not show up as being present  in map list although it seems to be. Could it reside as a base map? (separet question)
Any and all help quickly accepted. Thanks

GPSr Units / Showing bearing on a 60CSx

Already had degrees selected, but initially did not pick up the three didgits. Either way I had it and it's what I was trying to get.
Good day :)

GPSr Units / Showing bearing on a 60CSx

Agree, but have the answer to your initial question if I understood it correctly. Actually I have had good luck and accuracy with my elect. compass. anyway on the compass- select menu-change data fields-select the field you wish to change-then select To course. You now have a bearing to your destination.
Good luck

GPSr Units / Showing bearing on a 60CSx

It certainly would be more accurate than guessing at the numbers on the dial. Try this for something different-menu-select bearing pointer- gives you a little different compass but I can't really see any benefit. I like to use my GPS in combination with a regular compass so for that reason the 3 number bearing would be a benefit.
good luck

I to would like to do the same thing but have not been able to figure out how yet. It would work good with a compass.

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Re: New Mexico Topo
October 20, 2009, 02:16:35 PM
Thanks but that was not it, I'm aware it was self extracting. Just completed third download and it has loaded and is a fanastic topo. the problem was the switch to product icon in map source. thanks a bunch again, great work.

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / New Mexico Topo

Small problem, I have downloaded NM Topo map (exe. file) from this site but have been unable to load it into garmin mapsource after running it. Mapsource says it's not a compatable file, cannot read it. I downloaded twice just to be sure the download was not coruppt.  Map source is up to date. Want to eventually load it into my 60Csx. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
