GPSr Units / Button placement VS touch screens
« on: April 26, 2010, 06:51:57 AM »
Seems upside down to me. as you hold it and use your input buttons your hand/hands will quite likely cover part of the screen. thats the feature I like best on the 60CSx, the screen is right there as you work thru settings.

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Basecamp vrs. Mapsource
« on: April 03, 2010, 06:49:54 AM »
Wow-weird
Yesterday I downloaded Basecamp version 3.0.1, seems neat fine detail, but after the download I was looking at NM topo in Basecamp and noticed the highways were represented by two lines  not on the same track. I went back to Mapsource and brought up NM Topo and it shows no detail  and no contour lines. Did Mapsource get crippled with the new download of Basecamp?
Strange-weird-anybody else notice something like this.

Map Making Support / Install problem
« on: March 08, 2010, 10:36:28 AM »
Trying to make installer exe. file. Completed text script but when I run the nsis compiler the script ends with these error messages.

It is recommended that you close all other applications before starting Setup.  This will make it possible to update relevant system files without having to reboot your computer.

Just downloaded the newest version and when I run it I get a error code 2, "error while unpacking program". Have tried both free versions, full donwload and zip. Get same response with both. Anyone had this issue.

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Basecamp anomoly
« on: January 29, 2010, 02:49:32 PM »
Have started fooling some with Base Camp and find it lacks being intuitive for sure. On starting it picks up all the maps on your computer, nice. Under library is a folder that says my collection. Anything new you bring in and place in a new folder needs to be renamed, Waypoints GDB files and so on if you want to save the info. OK Now if you have several folders with info and select any map all that dat in the folders is displayed even if you have not selected it if collection is selected.   At the least, one folder is always selected. So if you want to work on a "new" map all the data in the folders is shown if you want it or not. SIMPLE workaround, Create a folder with NO data in it, then select it to keep from showing  the data stored in at least one or all of the folders.

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / maps4gps planimetric
« on: January 02, 2010, 07:20:47 AM »
@ mps4gps
Have your us planimetric sw edition and it's a great piece of work. Looked at it in mapsource but have yet to load it in the GPSr. Have turned up one anomoly, the road/highway symbol #'s keep showing in clusters and in series on a given road. At .5 mi. zoom the hiway # (35 in nm) in my area is displayed over 25 times. As I scan the map I see this all over with the symbols half on top of each other in some cases. Question? Is there a way you (or I) can limit the number of times this is shown. Like I said, I have not yet put this in the GPSr but would think all these symbols will present a cluttered look. All that said, it's a really neat map. Thanks

Map Making Support / not transparent
« on: December 19, 2009, 01:52:34 PM »
Been making img files from both gpx and shp files. GPX are all mine, the SHP files are from the US forest service. All seem to go well (most of the time) but when I make a map set with NM topo all I have is the topo, no local made map is visible. Have trried differing levels and settings in mapedit to no avail. My trail maps are visible by themselves in both mapsource and in the gpsr. Have selected transparent all thru the process. What (hopefully ) simple thing am I missing.

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Reject map source latest version
« on: November 18, 2009, 04:28:29 PM »
Updated version 6.15.6 can pose problems when saving some data to a GPX file. Map source will just stop working and shut down. After numerous back and forth of e-mails/phone calls Garmin has admitted to this problem. I'm forbidden from posting this info. acording to their e-mail. They told me to use an older version until an update can repair this problem. Try saving their "tour" database file as a GPX file and see what happens.

Map Making Support / Non transparent map
« on: November 15, 2009, 02:37:55 PM »
Hi everyone, I'm back with the continuing saga of problems. I have NM topo downloaded and have been useing it. I recently completed a map of area roads with the help of you all. All are loaded into mapsource and show as individual maps. I selected the topo map first and pulled out the quadrants I wanted and they show up in mapsource under maps tab. I then selected the whole map I had made and placed it in mapsource along with the 4 topo's I needed. Now have a total of 5 maps and saved and named it as a map set. When I made my map of trails I selected transparent all thru the process, BUT I can not see both maps. When I load the mapset all I get is the topo, yet I can see the trail map by itself.
Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

GPSr Units / 60csx track transfer ????
« on: November 05, 2009, 12:42:21 PM »
Am not transferring all tracks when I transfer  NM topo map to the gps. Receive a signal (on gps) that says track memory full. Have added numerous tracks to NM topo directly through map source, only 19 transfer and show up in the gps. Have set up the gps to load tracks onto sd card, and the file (gpx shows up there) but all tracks are not present. The only maps loaded to gps are NM Topo and US highways from file depot.

By the way US hiways does not show up as being present  in map list although it seems to be. Could it reside as a base map? (separet question)
Any and all help quickly accepted. Thanks

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / New Mexico Topo
« on: October 20, 2009, 11:14:04 AM »
Small problem, I have downloaded NM Topo map (exe. file) from this site but have been unable to load it into garmin mapsource after running it. Mapsource says it's not a compatable file, cannot read it. I downloaded twice just to be sure the download was not coruppt.  Map source is up to date. Want to eventually load it into my 60Csx. Any ideas? Thanks in advance
