Sounds great.  Right temperature too but maybe hard to find the water stops. IMO any Utah National Park beats Grand Canyon for views, but you shouldn't do Angels Landing at Zion at night.

Water stops... packed it all in and out so no need for those :)  I have not done Utah NP but Joshua Tree has some nice canyons for climbing and Alaska is just beautiful in a different way all over. 

And wow this topic has gotten way off track but I'd say any ole handheld should do you fine (newer version for the high sensitivity receivers)
