GPSr Units / Will these Topos work on a legend HC?
« on: May 28, 2009, 11:00:04 AM »
A friend is interested in a Garmin Legend HC.  This unit doesn't have SD card expandability but does have some internal memory and can be connected to the PC.  I think these have  24M of memory.  Can these maps be loaded into the HC into it's internal memory?   Any input would be appreciated.

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Grid lines/Printing Questions
« on: March 12, 2009, 10:48:23 AM »
Been playing with this nice mapset of the SE  US (John M's).   I would like to print some sections out, but ran in to a snag.

First, I can't figure out how to add Lat/Lon lines in Mapsource before printing.   There doesn't seem to be an option for that in the Mapsource toolbar.   These are options in the Delorme (streets) and Magellan softwares I do have.   The  Magellan software has topos which can do what I want, but these maps you guys made are nicer.

One other thing...when I see an area I want to cut and print the Map Tool (in the toolbar) won't allow cutting of small areas.  It highlights the whole "quad" (if quad is the correct term) The one I tried to cut/print was small area.  It was one my family's old hunting areas in a local National Forest.  In this instance I don't need a huge map.  Just an area a mile square.

General Discussion / Alabama on the slate?
« on: March 08, 2009, 11:39:33 AM »
I noticed you have added several more states since my last visit.  I thought I could do this map making but just reading the tutorials make my head spin.

Are there any members working on Alabama?

Loaded up the new Tennessee topo (and even figured out how to see it on the Nuvi).  That is amazing with the detail. A ton better than the Magellan topo I'm used to. I like the little points that you cursor to and more detail pops up.

GPSr Units / Newbie with a Nuvi-Another problem
« on: October 31, 2008, 10:52:20 PM »
Hey OZ,

Well.....bought a new 2GB SD card for the Nuvi today.....decided I'd just load the whole state of WY on the Nuvi consdering how I now have all this extra storage... Loaded the whole state to SD to see what it would look like.

This time I set the Nuvi system setting to "Pedestrian" like I did before (so I could see the Topo detail like I did before with that small chunk of Wyoming that I'd loaded to the Nuvi).   Well, if I back up so that I can see the whole US, the borders of the little map plates show up as well as the whole state, but when I zoom in there is no Topo detail to be seen like before.  I can move the cursor around and labels like "river", "road", etc show, but I can't see anything only the roads.   Wonder why I can't see the  topo detail?  Thanks.

GPSr Units / Newbie with a Nuvi - Mapsource is blank
« on: October 17, 2008, 10:09:25 AM »
Hello,

I had posted on Groundspeak with questions about my new Nuvi 200, but seeing how I'm having trouble seeing maps (wyoming-from here) maybe y'all can help.

Problem......New Nuvi 200 (it works)....downloaded Mapsource......downloaded your custom WY map (to see what it looks like).   When I pull up mapsource all I can see is a gray grid.  I can see POI's from my Favorites on the gray grid, but that is all.  Wyoming is a grid too, but it's yellow.  I can zoom in far enough and see a topo map.

I highlighted one small chunk of Wyoming and sent it to the Nuvi using Mapsource, but I can't see any detail like a topo would have in that area of Wyoming.  Just the road map that is already on the Nuvi?

Thanks in advance for any help.
