Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Re: MapInstall 4.2 (May 2018 update) won't install third party maps
« on: May 16, 2019, 07:48:02 AM »
I tried to submit feedback to Garmin, in hopes they would soon fix the Windows version of Basecamp, but I didn't get the impression they were planning on fixing it. Here is my support chat log:
beiley:
BaseCamp 4.7 will not install 3rd party maps. This is a huge headache I spent hours struggling with. Can you fix it? I've had to go back to an earlier version of BaseCamp. See: https://forums.gpsfiledepot.com/index.php?topic=4539.0
Chris :
GPS File Depot isn't updating their software, so it is becoming less compatible with Garmin products
beiley:
They still offer lots of maps, that your older Basecamp can utilize. Why is it the new Basecamp can't use them, but the old Basecamp can?
Chris :
The new BaseCamp was upgraded to 64-bit architecture. It is likely that GPS File Depot software is 8 or 16-bit, which is not compatible with 64-bit programs
beiley:
That is not a very satisfying answer. I go back to the old Basecamp works, and the new one doesn't.
Chris :
The old BaseCamp was 32-bit software, the new one is 64-bit. many new computer operating systems are only compatible with 64 or higher software programs.

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Re: Question about maps
« on: May 02, 2011, 09:13:39 PM »They used to include "Trip and Waypoint Manager" with all their handhelds. It's a stripped down Mapsource that only includes a rough basemap. I think they stopped doing this, since anyone can download the software from their site.
If you have already installed Basecamp and would like Mapsource, just download and install it here: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=209
That link offers Mapsource for download, but they have a note that says:
WARNING: This software will not work unless you already own a MapSource product.
If I have a 62s, that didn't come with Mapsource on a DVD, does that mean I can't use this download?
Thanks,
Mark
