I have been using a Garmin GPSmap60CSx for many years, with grest results, while hunting and hiking. But the screen is too small to use in my jeep while traveling the back country.
Is there such a thing as a dash mounted unit with a screen large enough to be easily seen while bouncing on a Jeep, and with a topo capability at least as good as that of the 60CSx?

Have been using a 60CSx for a long time with great results. Problem: small screen. Difficult to see screen while negotiating jeep trails. Need a Garmin unit with a larger screen  that also allows downloading  tracks and routes from Map Source. The Nuvi 1450 seems to fit the bill, but I've read many reviews claiming the unit shuts down for no apparent reason. Anyone have any advise?

Mystery solved! The track did come fom the unit itself. But why did I assume otherwise? The Nuvi 255 was a borrowed unit from a friend. I was trying to check out the larger screen to use in my suv. I did not know my friend had saved the track. As luck would have I had recorded a track 99% identical to my friend's, using my own unit. What are the odd of two people independently taking an almost identical trip and recording the track? So when I saw the track, I thought I had put it there inadvertently. Not being familiar with the 255, could not figure out how to remove it. Thanks for the help.

Downloaded maps and waypoints from MapSource to micro SD card. Installed card in Nuvi 255. Maps looked good. Waypoints showed just fine. But to my surprise an old track showed up. That track had been saved in a file a while back. But the MapSource file used for the transfer did not have it. Furthermore, I had checked only maps and waypoints on the list of items to transfer. I have two questions. How did that track get there? More important, how do I remove it? Anyone have any suggestions?

I don't think it makes a difference. I use the serial pin "thingy" with my 60CSx because I already had it for a previous unit. My Astro 220, which is a very similar unit, has only the USB port, so it must work OK. Have not tested it because I do not use the Astro in the vehicle.

In V 1.25 road names were all caps. No problem. That is why I went back to V 1.25.

The trail vs. road has nothing to do with naming. It has to do with the line showing the road. Generally freeways are shown as red thick lines. Other major highways as solid brown lines and jeep or hiking trails as dotted lines. In AZ Topo, many roads that should show as solid brown lines are shown as dotted lines. Seeing a faint dotted line on the map, one would assume it is a rough jeep trail, but that is not always the case in AZ Topo. One perfect example is the road from Carefree to Bartlett Lake. This road shows as a solid brown line between Carefree and the turnoff to Horsehoe Lake, which is accurate. But beyond that point it is a dotted line, giving the inpression it is a 4wd dirt trail, when in fact it is a well maintained black top.
I only bring this up as a point of accuracy because for me it is only a minor annoyance, not a major disaster. Before venturing into an unknown area I rely on more than one source of information. I check actual USGS maps, Google Earth, reports from people familiar with the area, etc.

Has anyone used the new version of Arizona Topo (2.0) that just came out? I use a 60csx and had very good results with version 1.25. My only problem with the 1.25 version was that many major roads showed as trails, depicted as faint dotted lines. Very difficult to see on the small screen of the 60csx. Version 2.0 did not cure the problem of major roads being shown as hiking trails. Also, in version 2.0 most street and road names have only the first letter capitalized. It is virtually impossible to read those names. I tried increasing the size of the name characters (via the map setup), but it did not help. Fortunately, I still had the installation file for V 1.25, so I uninstalled 2.0 and went back to 1.25. I am curious as to what results others have had.
