General Discussion / Good manners
August 10, 2011, 10:37:24 AM
I wanted to commend those forum members whose posts I've read - some in response to questions I've asked and others as well.  Responses have been respectful and helpful, sometimes entertaining.  I appreciate the civility and helpful attitude.  I was a member of another GPS-related listserv for a short-time.  I asked one question as was greeted by condescending and downright insulting replies: True enough, I'm new to some of this stuff and my questions may seem elementary, but that's hardly a reason to call me "stupid." --- no longer a member of that group.

Thanks for providing a welcoming atmosphere.........

I've seen comments about 64-bit machines and Windows 7.  I'm running such a machine, and have had similar problems, I think.  I carefully followed directions, downloading either the MN Topo file or, on other occasions, the BWCA map, and the My-Trails file.  In both instances, Mapsource seems to not recognize them - I try to open the file and find the typ and tdb files, along with image files, but there is no way to "view" these as a map. It's all proving very frustrating.....

Thanks - would that be the  "My Trails-High Quality Trail and POI Maps"?  Any idea how your maps compare to Eskimopi's BWCA maps?  Not trying to start a squabble here (I'm new), but I am trying to figure out the pros and cons of various options.

This is concerning:  no replies to my post three days ago... Am I to take it, then, that the Red Pine maps of Minnesota's BWCA have not been used by anyone?

Thank you..........Will respond more intelligently (presumably) after I have the GPS unit in hand.

This is a great website - I appreciate everyone's contributions.  I'll be sure to kick in a few $$ as soon as I can confirm that I can get the maps and my GPS to work together.

General Discussion / Red Pine Mapping

Has anyone used the Red Pine Mapping maps - snowmobile trails and BWCA?  Am curious about your impression of their accuracy, are the maps routable, etc.

Thanks

Thanks - the BWCA map is the one available on this site.  I attempted to "load" it in after first opening the Minn topo map from this site.  Clearly I'm doing something wrong.  Have a new 60CSX on order, but it's not here yet, so I'm stuck with Mapsource at the moment.  Will try your suggestion after I get the unit.

I just downloaded the BWCA maps, but when I open them in Mapsource (Garmin 60CSX), all I see are small green squares which have labels (showing when I roll the mouse over them).  I have the MN topo map loaded as well..........

I'm new to all this, so this is likely an error on my part, but any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks,
David
