Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Seeing double …
January 12, 2013, 01:18:35 PM
In Basecamp, I'm seeing two sets of many major roads.
I've got City Navigator installed on a microchip in my Montana 600 and I've selected City Navigator as the "map product to display" in Basecamp.  But depending on the map detail setting and my zoom level, I see the roads from the "Global Map" layer in addition to the CN roads.  How can I make the global map not show up at all when I'm using City Navigator? (I'll still want to use the Global Map occasionally when I don't have the Montana plugged into the computer).

Map Making Support / setting visible zoom levels
January 11, 2013, 06:18:06 PM
Using the great tutorials provided at this site, I successfully uploaded a custom map I made using GPSMapEdit to both my Garmin 76CS and my new Montana 600 using Basecamp.  The map works perfectly on the 76CS, but on the Montana, my map only shows up when I'm zoomed waay in, only after the scale bar is 500 ft or less.  When I zoom out more than this (i.e. scale bar is 700 ft or larger), my map is not shown.  I'd like my map to show at zoom levels of 3 miles and closer on the Montana (my map shows up at all zoom levels on the 76CS).  So how how do I make this change?  Do I need to do it in GPSMapEdit (perhaps in the Map properties settings?) or can I set the visible zoom range in Basecamp?  Or do I set this in the Montana?

BTW, my custom map is for the Kapp Linné area of Svalbard (Spitsbergen), where I run an research/educational program.  I'm happy to share it once I get it working right.

Thanks.

Hi,
I'm having fun playing with my new Montana 600.  Is there a way to access the custom maps folder using the Montana unit so I could rename the file extension of some maps in it?  I've got several excellent custom maps (kmz format) installed from this site and a couple overlap.  Since all the custom maps can only be turned on or off as a group, I've renamed the extension of the map I don't use so often, which disables it.  It would be nice to be able to use the Montana to change the file extension back to kmz when I want to re-enable the map.
