Garmin 24k Topo Map- does it have the Golden Gate State Park, CO trails?

Where can I get CO topo maps in general whether purchasing or downloading?

Thanks, BH

I use these Colorado Topo Maps all the time.  They have lots of trails and roads that the Garmin 24K maps do not have.   They also seem to me to be more detailed then the Garmin Maps.  Personally I think that this mapset it is worth the money.

I also own both a 60CSx and an Oregon 300.  I live in Colorado and have taken both with me backpacking and hiking in dense pine and aspen forest areas.   Personally I have found that after comparing the 2 on the trail and downloading tracks that so far the Oregon has never completey lost a signal and had no breaks in the tracks.  Sometimes I will lose a few satellites but never enough to lose the signal.   The 60CSx on the other hand in very dense overhead canopy will occasionally (but not very often) lose the satellite lock and will have small breaks in the track.  These are really not enough to cause a problem in navigation because if I keep walking I get the lock back a few minutes after the overhead breaks up a bit.  The 60CSx still does very well and I am still very happy with it's preformance.    What I like about the Oregon is being able to load the KMZ maps and now being able to use it with Birds Eye.

I have an older 60CS unit that I let my grand kids use and it loses signal all the time in heavy cover sometimes not coming back until the overhead almost completely clears.  That was my biggest complaint with this older unit, besides not having enough memory.

I found this list of the Airlines that approve the use of GPS and the one's that do not.
http://gpsinformation.net/airgps/airgps.htm  Seems pretty current.

I recently flew on Southwest Airlines and checked their in flight book and sure enough I found that the use of a GPS is approved after take off.    I had an isle seat on a 757 and my Oregon was just not able to lock up enough satellites to give me any information.       I have used it before on a plane while in a window seat and it worked ok, but I guess that there must be to much shielding around and over the center isle seats.   Anyway, it looks like there are not near as many Airlines that won't let us use them.

I really like the new feature of searching all maps added in the last 30 days.  Works great.

Thanks Oz.

I am open to suggestions...

On the main page under Recently Added Maps, I was just wondering if there is a way to add a search function by date or by a certain number of days for new maps.   Like all new maps within 15 days, within 30 days, within 60 days, and maybe within 90 days.

When I get busy or while traveling sometimes it can be awhile before I can get back to see what new maps have been added since I was last on.  There seems to be no way that I have found to find the new maps added since I was last on.    I just have to browse through all the map areas to see if I can find what has been added more than the five new files on the main page.

Also, I think I remember somewhere that someone asked if a KMZ section could be added, and I think that this would make it easier to find them.

Anyway,  thanks for all your work on the site.

Thanks Guys,

The Link on the Hawaii Topo page found here does not go anywhere.

It states that it is hosted off site, but the link brings you back to this same page.

There is a Garmin image file for St John at the link below.  Once you get to this page, scroll down to were it says to Download the IMG File  and click on that link to download the file.   He has some pretty neat maps on his site that might be useful.

Thank you, I will take a closer look at Mapwel and Gentype.  From what I can see, Mapwel looks like it is pretty much an all in one map making tool.  Might make map making a bit easier.

Sup Folks,

I have been making maps and over lays for awhile and have figured out most of the problems with the process so far.  But I have come to one problem I have not been able to figure out. I have not been able to make the trails show up in mapsource and on the GPS (GPSMAP 60CSx) in the heavy or thin Red dotted line like you see in some of the maps out there.  When I select "Trails/Walkway" it only comes up in black.  I even tried using the red 0x002b Marine Hazard as a type, but it still only shows in black as well.

Jbensman has he mentioned here http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/53/

One problem I had with them was trails were sometimes hard to see when there were lots of close topo lines. Someone taught me how to use a new program that allows you to make Garmin display the trails as a thin red line. Now the trails show up extremely well.

Can Jbensman or anyone else tell me what the new program is that he is using to make the trails show up in the red dotted line in Mapsource and on the GPS.  Also is it pretty straight forward to use it.
Thanks
