I only hunt in one area of Louisiana, can I just download the files for a particular area and have the topo map for that region??

You should be able to. Just grab the data for that region, follow all of the steps in the tutorial, just with fewer files, and you should be good to go.

yes, you definitely can. I started out just doing Mt. Lemmon in Arizona for rock climbing and grew from there.
