I post on too many forums.     :(

I had someone post a link on one of the different forums that I visit with a link to the hiking trails for the Smokey Mtns that was rdy for download and able to go right into my Oregon 450 but I didn't have the unit yet so I didn't download it yet.

Anyone know where I can find such a map?

Thanks in advance,
  Kirk

Ok, now how do I get the map on to my unit. I may be missing something but all I see is a link to view the map on the computer.

Sometimes I'm slow, sorry. hehe

I'll keep looking. I may be just missing it.

Sorry, I'm a noob

It's a Garmin Custom map and gets put on you Oregon's internal memory or on a datacard in the unit. Once you get the GPS we can give you the exact procedure. The map can also be viewed in Google Earth or with BaseCamp.

I have the unit now, that's why I'm trying to find the map now. When I click on the see map, it pops up in a separate box but not where I can download it.

Sorry, I thought you didn't have it yet...

Ok, start here: right click on the following: LINK

And select "Download Linked file" and save it to you desktop.

Stormstaff

I'm an idiot. I'll follow your link but I think part of the problem was that i followed the link at the bottom and went to the Tenn site and didn't click the top link to download the .kmz (or whatever it was) file.

Ah, yes you need the .kmz file. That gets put on you GPS or datacard. Do you have a datacard in the unit???

Stormstaff

Yes, I installed a 4gb card in it

Yes, I installed a 4gb card in it
Then the map goes on it in the

/Garmin/CustomMaps/

directory

You will most likely have to make that directory.

As a .kmz file or do I need to convert it over to something else?

And how can I tell if I'm loading it on the card or the unit?

You don't have to convert it. The GPS will display that .kmz file.

you will have to connect you GPS to your computer and you should get two mounted "drives", one is the GPS and one is the data card. I always name my datacards so I know what's what when they are mounted in the unit or with a card reader.

Stormstaff

Ok, renamed card and copied the file to the card. Now to unhook the unit and see if it's there
