What program is used for screen capture on receiver?

I noticed that Boyd and others have nifty screen shots from their receivers and was wondering: what programs enable this?

Seldom

ORs, and, I assume, COs have a setting that writes an image file to the units internal, or removable, memory.  Its retrieved like any other file when attached to a PC.  Hooking an OR or CO up to a PC is similar to having a 60CSX or 76CSX in "mass storage mode" except file handling is much more flexible.

Thanks seldom sn.

So it doesn't require a separate program; e.g., xImage?

When the Oregon arrives, where shall I'll go looking for that unit's internal setting?

Boyd

The Oregon, Dakota and Colorado are more similar to the Nuvi series, and much of the data is stored in files which you can drag and drop between your computer. The GPS plugs into your USB port and behaves like a disk drive.

In the display settings menu, choose screen capture. After selecting this option, tapping the power button will take a screenshot. These will all be found in the \Garmin\scrn directory.

xImage is for older models, like the 60csx which store everything internally where you cannot directly access it. Frankly, that's a big pain on these older models. You can't capture the screen of the unit while it's in use unless you lug around a laptop connected to it and run the xImage program for each screen capture.

Great answer Boyd - thank you very much for the reply.
