I bought a Nuvi, got a city navigator update and installed it.  It also installed itself in my PC on Map Source ... works great.

I have a huge exe. file ... no CD.

I am going to travel and want to have the City Navigator in Map Source on my laptop so I can plan routes and download them to the Nuvi.  I have Map Source installed but when I ran the City Navigator file it did not install it in Map Source like it did on the PC.

1.  How to do this?

2.  Can I transfer registry entries, files or something from the PC to the laptop?

I don't need it on the PC so I want to move it to the laptop if possible.

Thanks

Jimbob

Not sure i understand your situation. If you have the execute file (and any associated files that expanded) on the PC why not copy  to a CD and then transfer it to the laptop. Or is that what you did? It might be you missed some files if so. You would need the original program to be installed in the laptop, then update it after it's installed.

Maybe this will help (especially the last post): http://forums.gpsreview.net/viewtopic.php?t=12443

Excellent ... I also had to copy over the documents/setting/all users/application data/Gamin folder.

Worked!

This should be a sticky on how to transfer from computer to computer.

Thanks very much.

Anybody tried this migrating from XP 32 bit to Win7 64bit?  I've installed CNNANT 2010 on my Win7 machine and would like to bring over a 2009 installation from my XP machine.  Installing from the 2009 Update disk doesn't work.

I have Garmin MapSource installed on my laptop.
I have the Maps from a Nuvi 205W & (2) Nuvi 255W's installed into MapSource.

I will be changing PC's.

Garmin is extending the available download time period on one of the 255W's, and the second 255W is still new enough to download the Maps again, so I will be ok with 255W's.

My problem is the Nuvi 205W, with 2009.10 Maps. Garmin Tech Support states this map is too old & out of date, so they can't help with downloading it again, to install to another PC.

Is there any way to copy the Nuvi 205W's Map from MapSource, to install it on another PC ??

Great site! Thank you for all the great Topo's & Trail Maps we use for Geocaching, & all the help & info.

Boyd, thank you for leading me to the post on GPS Review.

Moving the maps along with MapSource from my laptop to another PC went real smooth.  Both are running Windows XP Professional.

MapSource works fine & displays all of our City Navigator Maps.  BaseCamp didn't work after the move, but it probably would have...
When I re-installed BaseCamp on the second PC, the software downloaded & installed .NET Framework...

All the other Garmin Apps came along with the move; Voice Studio, Map Install, USB Drivers, etc.
After running my new install of BaseCamp, I found I even had my lists of Geocaching WayPoints already installed!
None of the Maps or the Programs appear in Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, though...
And, our most used maps, our topos & trail maps, downloaded here, did not come along with the move & needed to be reinstalled.

I copied everything real neat & orderly to an external HDD, as the file sizes for just one of the City Navigator Maps totaled over 1.5 GB.  I moved 4 Maps.
We can now easily setup our maps & programs on any PC we choose.

Thanks for the help.
