I'm new to this so I apologize if this is a basic question.  I followed the tutorial here and downloaded the Pennsylvania and New York Topo maps onto my MAC.  I have two files with .tar and two .gmapi files.  I was able to succesfully downloaded these onto my Garmin Venture Etrex GPS unit.  So far so good.  However, I would like to be able to view them on the software that Garmin includes for view on your compute - BaseCamp.  Unfortunately, BaseCamp on sees the Garmin maps I purchased.  Any ideas on how to view the more detailed topo maps on my computer.

Thanks

I saw the thread below regarding Base Camp.  Is there another way for me to view the topos I downloaded from here on my mac computer.

Hi, to use maps with BaseCamp they need to be compatible with the software. The Mac versions on this site will all work with Garmin's RoadTrip software for viewing on your Mac. MapSource is for Windows computers.

Edit, the new Mac beta version of BaseCamp will load maps from this site

BaseCamp only works with maps which contain DEM (digital elevation model) data. Garmin has never revealed their format for DEM data and there are no third party tools for using it in your own maps. Therefore user-created maps (like the ones on this site) will not be compatible I'm afraid.
