Need Help NAD27 to WGS84 Conversions
« on: September 15, 2009, 08:18:57 AM »
I am writing another hiking book and need to convert older NAD27 waypoints to WGS84. I have visited many sites, but either the links they provide are broken or their methods are too confusing for me. This is something I do not have a lot of time to spend on, so the easier the better.
Thanks,

Branch

Try this one:

Or this one:

If not, take a look at other posts in the "coordinate conversion" category. But every solution will have a learning curve associated with it.

Thanks. I was hoping this would be easy.
I am guessing I can test the conversion with my mapping software by entering both sets of waypoints (NAD27 & WGS84) and making sure they point to the same place on the map.

As long as there's some way for your mapping software to know that a particular point you're entering is in one or the other datum, then yes. If it can't, it will show the points as being about 200 meters apart (at least in the SW US).

Try Corpscon, it is survey accurate.  I would have replied sooner, but their site was down for several days..
