I have downloaded and unzipped CA-CentralProvTopo-836.zip into a img.
How do I use it. I tried to load it into MapSetToolkit but the software wants a .typ file and I don't have it.

Not familiar with that map, it appears to be hosted on another site. Where did you get it and did it include any info about installation? Do you only have one .img file? If so, it might be a file that is ready to use directly on a gps. What is the filename? If it's gmapsupp.img, then that's what you have, it could be copied directly to the Garmin folder on your GPS or memory card. That kind of file will not be directly compatible with Basecamp however.

Otherwise, the .typ file should be optional in Mapsetoolkit. If not present, the default styles will be used. But you need to give us a little more info.

jdevlin,

Forget map set toolkit!!!

The .img file is meant to be copied to the Garmin folder on your gps device.  There are roundabout ways to see it on your computer but can be a pita.  If you would like to see in Basecamp follow what is written below, it is also on the map download page.  If you are wanting the map on you computer go back and download the "Mac" version and follow the instructions below

The "Windows" version is the .img file and can be directly copied or installed to the Garmin folder on your GPS (on older, single mapset devices mapname may need to be renamed gmapsupp.img), or copied to Orux/mapfiles folder.  Orux is available on the Google Play Store or for free at the authors website, https://www.oruxmaps.com/cs/en/more/downloads.  To view in Basecamp on Windows use the "Mac" version, after extracting and opening to mapaname.gmap, mapset can be placed in the Windows C:/ProgramData/Garmin/Maps folder (may need to un-hide and create)  or installed to Mac using it's install process.

The map came from this site. I am working with a Garmin quatix7 which is very new to me. I won it as a prize. I am still figuring out everything it can do.
I will attempt to load the file directly.
I am working on a PC and windows10.

I just looked it up, it's a watch!  I'm not sure how easily mine will work or look as I didn't create them for a watch https://www.gmaptool.eu/en has some Canadian maps he has made for the Fenix which may be another option, and the mapmaker, popej seems by all accounts a good guy

Thanks all. This has been very helpful. This watch has a lot features I still need to figure out.
