So I recently purchased a Garmin summit HC for when I go to Colorado for a hunt, I was trying to put a topo map of the general area I hunt in but when I finally got the area I wanted and tried to send it to gps I came across a problem, it said it was deleting some other map but was stuck on that alone. my question is what am I possibly missing on doin, any feed back is appreciated thanks ahead.

The Summit HC was introduced in 2007 and only has 24MB of internal memory with no ability to expand. This a very limited device, I hope you didn't pay too much for it. You will only be able to load a very small map.

Using Mapsource (the software that was originally provided) on these old devices, when you send a new map it will erase the last map that you sent to it. Garmin's new software MapInstall is supposed to be smart enough to figure out how to add another map to the existing one. At the moment, the problem is that MapInstall doesn't work properly anymore following the most recent update in May.

For more info about the Summit, you could start by having a look at the original product page and user manual here:

What software did you use when you tried to load your map? Was it Garmin Basecamp? If so, that is probably not going to work because of the problem I mentioned above. Mapsource will still work however, and there are ways around the problem of automatically deleting an existing map. The simplest is to just copy the gmapsupp.img file from the GPS to your computer before you send a new map.

Let us know what software you are using and we can probably help.
