No maps in BaseCamp or Mapinstall
« on: October 04, 2017, 02:26:10 AM »
Running Windows 10, all programs are up to date.  Downloaded a few different state topo maps.  They are sitting in download file on my computer. They DONOT open up in the Garmin Installer or BaseCamp.  When you go to open them up the windows installer ( I guess its windows, its NOT Garmin) and it wants to save everything in C:\Program Files (x86)\witpo11

So, I guess I need to be treated like an idiot and need a step by step on where to put this file SO it will get into Mapinstall and than BaseCamp.

I did this years ago in XP and into my Dakota 20 with no problems.  Now Windows 10 and trying to get these topos on my new Oregon 600, I am having trouble.

So anyone, HELP

Boyd

No need to feel like an idiot, many of the maps here have not been updated for a long time and there was a bug in the installer that many authors used which surfaced with the 64 bit version of Windows 7. The problem is that Garmin uses registry keys to identify maps and that installer did not create the necessary ones. So try this: first un-install all the maps; this is done the same was as un-installing a program on Windows. Also make sure that you quit from all Garmin's software.

Now install this map. You don't need to use it for anything, just install it - it is known to create the keys that Garmin requires.

Now install your other maps again, start Basecamp and see if the maps appear in the dropdown menu. This tutorial may help: https://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-open-maps-in-garmin-basecamp/

I wrote some simple instructions for sending maps to your GPS with MapInstall here: https://forums.gpsfiledepot.com/index.php?topic=4358.msg24074#msg24074
