When geocaching,i select a geocache and every single time it comes up with unable to navigate messages. I would just be happy with it jyst pointing in the direction I need to go with the compass.

Also, are there any routable maps available for free?

You will get more help with geocaching at http://forums.groundspeak.com

There are very few routable maps here. But you can find them by going to https://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/ and clicking the "routable" box under "Search by Map Features".
