I've just joined site and need all the help I can get.

I just ordered a Garmin eTrek20X to use when we're riding the desert in Yuma, AZ.  Where can I get some good maps that will be helpful in the desert?

Thank you in advance.

Choose the correct version of Basecamp for your computer and download/install it. It's free:

http://www8.garmin.com/support/mappingsw.jsp

Now download anything that looks interesting here:

http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/state/az

If you are bewildered by the number of different maps, you could just start with the editor's choice:

Follow this tutorial to install the map(s) you downloaded:

http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-open-maps-in-garmin-basecamp/

You can do all the above right now, before you even receive the GPS. When you get the GPS, follow this tutorial to install any of the maps that you like

http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-load-maps-on-my-garmin-gps-unit/

Now get outside and enjoy your new eTrex! :)

Boyd,

Thank you for your reply.  I had already downloaded Basecamp to my computers.  I found a few of the maps I'd like for AZ. Where do I download them too?

Maybe I'd better watch the tutorial before I ask anymore questions.

All the links for Arizona maps on this site are here: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/state/az

Click any that interest you. Then click the download button on that page. If there is no download link, then the map is hosted offsite and often these maps are not free. In that case, you would need to contact someone at the host site for information/help.

Well, I'm in the Newbie boat also.  Montana 650 unit.  I have Basecamp on a Windows 7 PC.  I've downloaded the Colorado topo from this site onto the PC.  Two of us have worked for hours trying to figure out how to get the CO topo map moved over to the Basecamp.  We've read, looked at, etc. all the tutorials here and still can't get it figured out.  I want to load it onto an SD card, that I can put in the unit.
I hate to have to resort to asking the neighbor kid to come over, but that's next unless I can get some help?
I'd also like to get the CO GMU maps from another thread loaded too.
Any help would be GREATLY appreciated/Thanks!!

If your Windows 7 is 64bit, did you follow the info in red about the need to first install a 32-bit map?  Maps are installed, not moved.  Basecamp (MapSource) only look for maps when they start; maps installed while these programs are open will not be seen by them until the next time they are started.

We do have the 64 bit, and thanks to your help now have it downloaded on Basecamp.
Thanks,
Gregory

Boyd,

I've got the AZ map I want downloaded into BaseCamp. My Garmin eTrax20x arrived today.  Do I download the map directly into the gps or do I have to use a card to download to and then put it into the gps?

Boyd

You can use either internal memory or a memory card. Just follow the tutorials I linked to above.
