As it is now they are the same color so it is hard to distinguish between a trail and road.  I have the latest version of BaseCamp and have not found any way to do this.  I found that roads can be turned off but it would be better it they were just different colors.  I am new to this so I may just be missing something simple.

What maps are you using? Are they Garmin's own topo maps or third party maps? You can change the appearance of any item on the map using something called a .typ file. Garmin's US Topo maps do not include .typ files so you would have to create your own and add it to the mapset.

Changing just one road type would be pretty simple if you understand the concepts. This should point you in the right direction. Be sure you have good backups of your maps before attempting any of this.

Hello Boyd, I am using Colorado Topo 2011 and My Trails - High Quality Trail and POI Maps from GPSFile depot.  I looked over the forum notes on the .TYP files but those guys seem to know a lot about programming and that is beyond me.  I may just have to live with what I got.  Right now I am overwhelmed with getting all the trails off the My Trails High Quality maps that I want.  It is more involved then I expected, but they do seem to be very detailed like what I want.  Anyway thanks for your response.

I just discovered how to do it!  In BaseCamp when you double click on the trail name listed on the left side of the screen it brings up the track properties screen.  In that screen on the upper right side there is a small box that you can click on to change the color of the trail.  I was using that screen to check that the tracks were going in the right direction.  I guess I was just concentrating on doing that and did not notice that color box there.  So I am happy now!!

Ahh, you were asking how to change the color of a track....  You asked how to change the color of trails or roads....  That is a much different question.
