Where are you located or want to use your 650 so we can recommend a map set for you?

Sounds like this might do for topo and land features:
http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/21/

But for property lines you'll need to get cadastral data from someplace.

http://www.geobase.ca/geobase/en/index.html might be a good place to start looking if you plan to make a map transparent map yourself.  Or you might be able to find some of your local authorities who can provide such a map.  I know here in the Utah the BLM does provide some Garmin compatible maps.

If your nephew has the maps you want, why don't you just ask where he got them?  ;)

Otherwise, can you find a paper map with the info you want? If so, you could make your own map using this simple technique: http://www.garmin.com/us/products/onthetrail/custommaps

This method is only suitable for small maps - the image you use cannot be any larger than 1024x1024 pixels. But there's a program you can use to make larger maps of this type: http://moagu.com/?page_id=155

Depends on exactly what he has. For starters, find out if the map is contained on a data card. If it was purchased on a card, there might be a label. Otherwise, when the GPS starts up it will display copyright info and there will probably be something from that map.  The same info should be available in the Menus. I don't have one, but on my Montana 600 I would press Setup > About and all the copyright info is listed on the first page,

On my Montana I can also press Setup > Map > Map Information which will show all installed maps. There may be some info about the map  in this menu.

Okay, here is more of the story, went to store were nephew got and they found the version of the map, Trak Map v2. They told me the new version v4  (3d) is the newest and greatest.
However v4 does not have the lot and concession lines as well as unopened road allowances, turns out this was a liability issue if not updated regularly and they no longer have this option. The rep for the company was at the store and sent a note to president of the company who answered right away with the liability explanation.
Only solution they now of is to find a v2 issue that has not been installed.
ORRRRR is there some way to duplicate from the nephews?????

It would be against forum rules to discuss duplicating copyrighted maps.

You raise an interesting point here, and something I have been wondering about as a mapmaker. I am working on a new map that includes public openspace (state forests, wildlife mgmt areas, parks, etc). I always include a disclaimer about map accuracy and I think GPSFileDepot also has a similar blanket disclaimer.

What liability would a mapmaker have if somebody claims a map error caused them to trespass on private land? Would the situation be different with a free map vs a commercial product?
