Loading maps onto basecamp

Is it just me or is Basecamp much more user unfriendly than Mapsource?...

I've been trying to do 2 things in Basecamp as I didn't get a cd to upload mapsource with my Garmin 78s handhelds... I've uploaded the maps from GPSfiledepot for the states, now can't get a route planned on Basecamp, so I tried to create an Adventure, it will load the routes, but not the waypoints & it won't even look for the maps. Two of us are riding the TAT trail in June, so need the units ready for that.

Then for the UK I bought the OS 1:50 maps, loaded them onto the micro SD card in the handheld & into the My Garmin file & Basecamp won't even recognise the file so I can't upload it to plan routes.

Anybody got any suggestions for either of these issues
