Etrex 20 - topo map NOT available in BaseCamp/MapSource after MapSetToolKit

I've been at this for 3 hours now and I finally give up and am desperately in need of help.

I've downloaded gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/28  - CALI TOPO - and installed the contents to my desktop.

I have followed the instructions in gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-load-.img-files-into-mapsource-with-mapsettoolkit/ under the section "The Map Has a .tdb File"

I move on to gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-load-maps-on-my-garmin-gps-unit/#pcbasecamp using BaseCamp to install the map - when I right click my device I don't see ANYTHING to "install map", as I understand it, this is old instructions, but still, I can't find anywhere that indicates I can install a map supposedly made available through MapSetToolKit.

so I try "Loading The Maps With MapSource on a PC" section of the same previous URL - I do not see ANY drop down box with ANY topo maps installed, including the one's supposedly made available via MapSetToolKit.

I am thinking maybe I should use OLDER versions of BaseCamp and MapSource?  And unpatch my device?  Do you think Garmin may have prevented 3rd party Topo Maps via patch?

Has anyone been able to successfully do this?  Or should I just pay for the maps already?

sooooooo ***king frustrated!!!!   HELP!

What are you talking about when you say patched???

To install that map, just run the installer that came with it, you don't need MapSetToolKIt to install it. If fact, you probably should just install the updated map from here: http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/523/

I have that installer - when I run the file, it creates all the img files on my C: Drive and everything and then DOESN'T show up in BaseCamp/mapsource .... anywhere.  I then used MapSet to try to make these topo maps available for import - this does not work either.

HELP!!!

What OS are you using? If Win8 that could be a problem.  If running Win7, try installing http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/53/ and re-starting BaseCamp.  That map has been known to cure some problems of the sort you describe.

Where does the installer put the IMG files.  (Note that these are NOT disk IMGs).

You shouldn't be using MapSetToolKit to install maps that came with an installer.  Using a map installer from this site should be a no-brainer.  Just run it and the map should show up in BaseCamp.  If Indrid's link installs correctly you should be good to go.  If not uninstall the first map you installed with MapSetToolKit, and then uninstall and re-install BaseCamp.

then you have something else going on.

Do this:
Download and install (from the installer-not MapSetToolkit) the following:
http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/53

Then install (from the installer-not MapSetToolkit) the following:
http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/523/

AHHH I SOLVED IT!

To anyone having this issue, be mindful of the following comment under the Cal Topo installer:

"Version 1.0 Released June 28, 2011

There is an issue with the 64-bit installer used in the PC version of this mapset. If this is the first mapset you are installing on a Windows 7 64 bit PC, you will need to FIRST install a mapset which used a 32-bit installer, 'My trails ....' gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/53 works and is small in size.
"

SO you have to install using a 32 bit installer FIRST FIRST FIRST before using the main topo map installer.  EVERYTHING is showing up in BaseCamp now.

Happy hiking everyone!

did you get the map loaded onto your gps, I am having the same problems trying to load a good map on my Garman 30, any ideas ?

I just had this same problem, cursing at basecamp, cgpsmapper, and mapsettoolkit for three hours.
This <http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/53> was the solution, it seems. Hooray!
