MAP INSTALL

I'm trying to install multiple maps on a Mac on a microcard in a reader.
I keep gettting a message that doesn't make sense regarding
space on the card.  What's going on?

"map set is approximately 2048.9 MB, but only 3296.5 MB is available in the destination."

What mapset is giving you that error?
One from here or someplace else?
Are you getting that message for a single mapset you send, or for all mapsets?
Also, what GPSr are you using?

That message is normally created when a map author creates a mapset by replacing one or two tiles, but not rebuilding the background.img file and the TDB file.  If you made the map yourself, just recompile the background.img and TDB.  If it's somebody else's map you need to have them recompile those items and get you a functioning installer.

For the record, I don't own a Mac, but have gotten that message on my PC when I did what I described above.

I downloaded and unzipped the following mapsets:  Yosemite,Nevada,California,MyTrails, Oregon from this site.  Then I selected all maps in each set and clicked "send Maps".  After the first time that I got the error I downloaded all the sets again and combined them again in MapInstall 4.0-
same error.  The size bar each time I selected a mapset in Mapinstall showed enough space remaining.

I intend to use the maps on a Nuvi 855 but that was not connected while I was installing on the card in a reader.  The card has some Audiobooks on it and a California and Nevada mapset but as I understand it the existing .img file should be overwritten my the new .img file.

Ok.  I tried the mapsets individually, starting with the smaller ones.  It appears that MyTrails is the one causing the problem.  When I tried other small sets; Yosemite and Oregon, for example, the installation worked.  I am now installing all sets except the MyTrails which will take some time to see if it works.

I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but MapInstall 4.0 was just released and is evidently buggy. See:

https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=27095

The install finally completed without the MyTrails mapset so it seems that that was the set
causing the error message.  Maybe it needs to be recompiled.

There was an issue with MyTrails that was discussed here before. When an author creates a map he can choose between different systems of text encoding. Evidently these different systems don't always play together so well when multiple maps are used. This was causing some problems with MyTrails on newer Garmin handhelds, so I don't know if that could be the issue.

But IIRC, jbensman (the author) fixed this with an update. You might want to contact him directly to see if he can help.

BKSLDR7

Isn't the update included in the current download?

Only jbensman would know that.

I think I have an identical problem, getting a message that there is not enough space while there is plenty of space on the base and SD card.

SETUP:
GPS: Montana 650t + 32G SD Card (Free space 906 MB free on base, 29.7G on te card)
Mapset: "My Trail" downloaded from this site (no alteration made)
Installation Software: Garmin Base Camp
Windows 7 64 bit running on Dell Precision M4600

ISSUE:
Following the normal map installation procedure these are the messages in susbsequent windows dialog box/prompts that I get (screen snapshots are attached):

1- The Following map will fit on your Montana 650t
    My Trails

2- These maps will be sent to your device:
    My Trails
After this your device will have 884.0 MB of free space.

3- The map set is approximately 22.3 MB, but only 906.3 MB is available in the destination.
Please select fewer maps and try again.

Short story ... Nothing gets installed

Please note that I tried to install this on my memory card as well, but I get the same messages (them Free memory size in the messages is much larger of course)

For what it is worth, I installed My Topo maps w/o any problems.

Any help is much appreciated.

Sorry forgot to mention the version #s in my previous post:

Garmin Montana 650t software version 3.90
Garmin Basecamp 3.3.2
My Trails Version 1.0 (53-1476-My_Trails_install.exe)

As I have mentioned before in the other thread, MapInstall 4.0 is a major new version that was just released about a week ago and there's discussion of bugs/issues on Garmin's support forum. See this thread: http://forums.gpsfiledepot.com/index.php/topic,2854.0.html

You should post any issues on Garmin's forums - the developers need user feedback to fix the problems: https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=27095

Yes, but merfani's issue is with My Trails.  He installed My Topo correctly.  And do we know that merfani is using a Mac?  I can't tell from the attachments.  If he's using a PC, and a nuvi, he should also look here https://forums.garmin.com/showthread.php?t=27145 .  merfani, apologies if I've got your gender wrong.

What merfani describes sounds like it could be buggy Mapinstall behavior. But I suppose there could be some problem with MyTrails. In that case, you can contact the author here: http://forums.gpsfiledepot.com/index.php?action=profile;u=193
