Is there a manual (yes, I'm that old that I remember when instructions were printed on paper ;D) something along the line of GPS for Idiots or GPS 101 that describes in the MOST basic ways of how to use a GPS?  I've never used one (other than with my car) and I want to know more than just how to get from point A to point B.  I know there are many good tutorials on line, but to me seeing something in print will last much longer.

Not paper, but this might be a start: http://www8.garmin.com/aboutGPS/
If you want paper, click on the "GPS Guides" link, for a PDF.  Of course, it'll be your paper.

Have you tried your public library?
Seaching mine for 'gps' in the title, showed 4 books and 2 videos (including 'GPS for dummies).

Heh, that "about GPS" is showing a StreetPilot III which is a 10 year old model. :)

Garmin has some training videos and resources here: http://www8.garmin.com/learningcenter/

I have also found that if you go to YouTube and search for any specific model (eTrex, for example) there are some pretty good tutorials. But like everything else on YouTube, the quality varies a lot.

But actually, Rich Owings has created a very nice series called "GPS 101" here. I think this might be the best place to start: http://gpstracklog.com/category/handheld-sport-gps/handheld-gps-101

The satellites haven't changed and it's got a section on WAAS.  I thought the OP was looking for info on why it worked.  After all, sheltie does have his manual for the menu by menu stuff.
