I posted a new topo map for part of New England: Maine, Mass, Vermont, New Hampshire
Let me know what you think:    http://www.gameandfishnetwork.com/News/article/sid=15.html

hello savage,  i am very excited about downloading this map on my mac and trying it out on my new gps but i am having trouble. does it have to be in the form of .tgz  and not .exe?  the other question i had was that i tried to delete the previous mass topo map from my micro sd card before i tried to download this one from my card reader but it would not let me.  there was no place that would let me delete it so i tried to drag it into the trash.  it first said that it would be permanently  deleted then i clicked ok then a box appeared up top and said  "the operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficent privileges for "gmapsupp.img".   do you have any idea how i can get rid of the old one.   thanks for your help and hopefully i will be able to get this new map...

I am not a mac expert and I am not sure how it should be distributed on the mac. The .exe file is a windows installer.

Oz, do you have a tutorial on how to build a mac version? I can build a tar/zip but what else has to be done?

deercamp

hello, i was just doing some research on line and if you can create a tar.gz that should work from what i have read .   i guess that tar/zip might be the same thing and that will probably work.  this is what i read " i like to use the tar.gz format for files that i would only use on my mac and linux machines"
i hope this is some help to you because i am really hoping to be able to get this map for new england.
thanks a lot .... ;)

Its very easy to convert a map installed in MapSource to run on the Mac in RoadTrip by using Garmin's MapConverter (http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3897). I just finished doing this with the New England map and it works fine. I can post it if someone needs to download a copy.

deercamp

yes i would love if you could post a copy ;D   did you do this with the new- new england topo that savage created ?  thank you

To make a mac version just download Garmin map converter: http://www8.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=3898

I am transferring the above download over to the server so people can find it easily.

Thanks. I probably couldn't keep it on the other server forever anyway.

I am new...at this, thanks.

I just downloaded Newenglandtopo from Gameandfish and I find that Garmin Mapsource does not recognize.  Only map product listed under utilities is the waypoint/tracks manager loaded from the Garmin CD. (60Csx)

Any Help?

Thanks again

maps4gps

It is a self-install file.  Run the exe file. Then see http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-load-maps-on-my-garmin-gps-unit/ if you need help with mapsource.

Greetings All.
Newbie question, I assume the New England Topo is not routable?
I have loaded it onto my 60CSX but as I am in south africa cant yet check if it will route but from what I see in map source it does not look like it will. If so, how do you guys normally route using these maps?

Many thanks

-Oz-

It is not routable; very few of the free maps are (and none on this site).

The reason is that the software to make it routable is very very expensive.

To get routable maps either by Garmin City Navigator or try out this site: http://garmin.na1400.info/routable.php
