Greetings,

I am fairly new to handheld GPS and was given the 62st as a very generous gift from my father.  I have been playing around with this for hours and loaded the Wyoming Topo map from here. It seems to me that the 100k map that came with my device is better than the map I downloaded.

For example, I specifically added the Tetons and was playing around with the map for a while.  The 100k shows trails and campgrounds while the map from here hardly shows anything but the elevation.  Am I doing something wrong?  Thanks!

A question best answered by the map author of that mapset.

Did you zoom-in to the 500-800 ft zoom level?  Different mapsets may have features displaying at different zoom levels.

Source data also differs in completeness and detail.  No one source is best in everything.  Complete trail data does not exist.  There have been many posts on many forums that in some areas Garmin's 24k topos have less (or no) trail data compared to their own 100k topo product.  Either one/or both of my trail overlay mapsets should improve the trail situation.  There are also 4 or more websites that have trail info submitted by GPSr users which might have a specific trail(s) you are interested in.

Since your 62st supports Garmin's "custom map" format, have a look for scanned maps in your area.... or make some yourself! http://www.garmin.com/garmin/cms/site/us/onthetrail/custommaps

Use the "filter results" search feature on this site and check the "Garmin Custom" box.

For a Garmin Custom Map source you can use the NPS for this for both a summer an winter raster:
