MapSetToolKit / cGPSmapper help - can't get it to work - insta-crash

So following this tutorial to the T

All that ever happens, with any IMG I try, is I get a little black window with no text and then half a second later a crash report dialog.

Windows XP with cgpsmapper 0098c and mapsettoolkit 1.62

Any ideas?

Further info, trying to load IMG topo maps of for New Zealand into mapsource.

Can you tell me what the crash report says; which program is crashing.

If you point me to where the maps are I'd be willing to try it out and see if I get a crash.
