General Ques. from a beginner

I downloaded both the mapsource and Calif. topo map from this website to my PC.  How do I get them to sinc up.  Should I not be able to open the mapsource and find the topo map?  How can I import the topo map to mapsource progam.  Thanks to anyone who can advise.
