So, I was not able to duplicate a corrupt file, but I did note that the properties did not match the image size and could be causing issues for some.  I will recompile and re upload.  It may be later today or tomorrow.  I will post when I have done so.

Hello, I am getting the same type of error messages. I used both 7zip and microsoft unzip. BOTH give me error messages saying the file is corrupt or broken, 7zip will still unsip it but the imag file is useless/unusable. I have tried another map and it worked fine. seems to be link to the data of the windows Version of CA-CentralProvTopo Map ONLY. PLZ fix the file.

"Custom maps" has different meanings. On this site, the owner likes to use it to describe any map that doesn't come from Garmin. Garmin has a different definition though, it's a special kind of map you can make yourself from aerial imagery or scanned paper maps. These are .kmz files, not .img files however.

What is the source of your .img file? Is it a file from a GPS unit? .img files are "containers" and Garmin puts different things into them which require different treatment.

If it's a file from a GPS, then you can't "install" it in Basecamp, but Basecamp will recognize it on a GPS that is connected to your computer. Likewise, you could create a Garmin folder at the root level of a USB flash drive or SD card and copy the .img file there. Basecamp will treat that the same as if it were a GPS. See this for another way to do this without a flash drive.

I have an .img file I want to use with Basecamp, but I can't figure out how to add it to the program. What are the steps to install custom maps?

For those who were not aware it is one of the few programs to view Garmin .img files.  The rendering is not quite what it looks like in Basecamp, but it saves time instead of kludging with other methods to view the .img file, Windows only.

Map maker here!  Curious about how you are extracting and with what program.  I'm a loooong time 7zip user and it has never let me down.  I just downloaded and extracted the CA-Central Prov map without issue, and even took a quick peak in Festive.

I can and do make mistakes which is why I download a copy of my maps and if I can't, to rectify it.  BTW, is the "System" reporting the error Windows or Mac.  More info would be helpful to myself and possibly a few others on this site to assist.

I downloaded the 8 April 2025 version of CA-CentralProvTopo and am unable to extract the img file. System reports it as corrupted. Anyone else experience this? The other CA zipped files work ok.

Happy to help. Since you're using a Mac, you could also use a "virtual device" for this instead of a physical flash drive. See this:

On that site you will find a number of very useful free apps. They're written in Java, which makes them compatible with Macs and Windows machines. Don't recall the details, but some of them may no longer work because of changes to MacOS however, I think you'll find some discussion of that on his site.
