Map Making Support / Elevation contours
Last post by Sunbeamik - September 09, 2025, 07:48:54 PM
Good afternoon, friends. I found a good website where you can download elevation contours in .pbf format.

http://develop.freizeitkarte-osm.de

However, there is no data that I need here, namely Egypt, Chad and Indonesia. Does anyone know where to get the country elevation contour data in .pbf format?

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Re: Map not rendering correctl...

FORGET THE TUTORIAL ON HOW TO LOAD .IMG W/MAPSETTOOLKIT!

The gmap/gmapi is "univeral" for windows and mac so download the mac version https://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/download.php?map_id=834&mac=yes.  This applies to my maps or any map author who offers their maps in the gmapi format, some have batch installers, some don't like mine, just follow the instructions below.  Do this with Basecamp and/or Mapsource closed.  There are a couple ways to view garmin img files in bascamp, but you need other software, etc  Also delete what you have tried to do thus far as it may mess up basecamps "brain"

To view in Basecamp on Windows use the "Mac" version, after extracting and opening to mapaname.gmap, mapset can be placed in the Windows C:/ProgramData/Garmin/Maps folder (may need to un-hide and create)

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Map not rendering correctly in...
Last post by bghooke - August 05, 2025, 06:18:17 AM
I am trying to add to BaseCamp the Greenland Map that I downloaded from the GPSFileDepot here: https://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/834/downloadmac/ . I followed the directions here: https://www.gpsfiledepot.com/tutorials/how-to-load-.img-files-into-mapsource-with-mapsettoolkit/ and everything appeared to work as it should. I had issues with BaseCamp saying that the map had not been installed correctly but I was able to solve that by leaving the family ID blank and entering a made up product code. But when I open the map in Basecamp there is clearly an issue with the latitude and longitude not being rendered at the same scale because the map is very distorted. The other point to note is that there was no typ or txt file with the img file. I tried using the typ file that comes with the Mac version but I can't use that unless I enter a family ID and if I do that then I get the error saying that the map did not install correctly. Any advice on how to get this work? Thank you!

FWIW, I can see all the uploaded screenshots in this thread using latest Google Chrome under Windows 10 Pro N., but only after I login.  Before logging in: "You cannot view this attachment."

Thanks for all the responses here.

I spent an hour on phone with Garmin CS. I shared my phone camera with Daniel and walked through the issues with him watching. He asked for internal help. Came back with some interesting ideas.  Apparently, ARABIC language was added at some point to this device.  He doesn't know why the unzipped update fails to write.  Probably something with the additional ARABIC in a name pattern check.  He wasn't able to provide further help.

Hacking the updater.exe is a last resort.  Or cloning the flash chip?

Thanks for trying. I can see the imgur fine, but the three screenshots in the previous post just say "you cannot view this attachment". As a mod, I can edit your post and see the bbcode for the attachment, but if I try to view it, same problem.

This is something that Dan would have to fix, so I think "it is what it is".  ;)

I'm able to see in Firefox and Ungoogled Chromium.  Imgur link is a screenshot of a screenshot in U C.  My FF is super "hardened" the U C not so much.  Win 10 with defender and updates neutered fwiw.

I'm going to attempt to screenshot and link/post the image on the homepage

Quote from: sockmonkey on July 28, 2025, 09:03:47 AMBTW I am able to see your screenshot.

That is interesting, even with mod privileges for me it just says

"You cannot view this attachment."

If I use a different browser that I've never used on this site and don't login, it still says the same thing. Very odd....

76csx update

The link above will take you to the update page.  Looks like you need to run the updater after unzipping and use the included .rgn update file...maybe this is what you have already done.  4.00 looks to be the most "recent" update, from 2009.  BTW I am able to see your screenshot.
