Map Making Support / Re: Southeast US Map

3 more of the  4 degree by 4 degree blocks to go on the SouthWest. 9 or 10 days of crunching.
The SouthWest will have all of Arizona and most of California, Nevada and Utah

The big question is what next NorthWest, NorthCentral or Northeast?

dhisum_dhisum,

There is one section missing. The section in Louisiana at the mouth of the Mississippi river the Hydrography would not compile.

The img file names do have meaning.

Position 1 and 2    The block number. Blocks 4 degree by 4 degree parts I have divided the map in to.

Position 3 and 4   The Latitude of the Northwest corner  of the square

Position 5, 6 and 7   The Longitude of the Northwest corner  of the square

Position 8     A number 1 to 4 showing what quarter of the degree the img file map is of . 1 is the Northwest, 2 is the Northeast, 3 is the Southwest, and 4 is the Southeast,

Oz I have not tried to make a Mapsource installer. I have moved img files to my gps using sendmap. It has been a long time from when I read the Tutorial about the  MapSetToolkit. I will give it a try. Should we start a new topic as not to hijack the  Oregon State Group Project?

Oz, I have raw and processed data lower 48 states. The making the .img files will run for
at least 6 more weeks. A note on processing time the data with out the contours ran in 4 days. The data with contours 2.5 to 3 mounths.

As far as quality please check and let me know. Southeast USA has been up loaded

Oz the what can be done with the data I got from your very good Tutorials. The work processing I use is run by bat files and SQL with some perl, and GDAL.

The data used in the maps

1. Elevation contours - 20ft intervals made from NED30

2. Streets from the 2008 Census Tiger data

3. Hydrography (NHD) from ftp://nhdftp.usgs.gov/SubRegions/High/ as of 12/08/08

4. Federal lands from http://nationalatlas.gov/maplayers.html

5. Indian  lands from http://nationalatlas.gov/maplayers.html

6. POI's from NationalFile_20081228.zip

The contours where processed with a 20 foot interval, When I export the data I will only take the 40 foot intervals. Do yoy want one big shape file. I can try but that may be to big. So then it woould be shapefiles one degree square. The Land Contour (medium) is at the 100 foot interval and Land Contour (thick) is at the 400 foot interval. Is this OK? Will PM you may email. NHD data will be shapefiles one degree square.

I have Borders, Contours, Federal Land, GNIS, NHD, and Transportation data processed for the lower 48 states. The data is compiled and cut on a 1/2 degree grid. My computer has been making the .img files for 3 weeks there are 1,256 done out of 3,524. Starting in the south and going east to west. I have not made a installer but I am up loading the Southeaster USA. The processed date is store in a 200GB PostgreSQL\PostGIS database. How can I help?

For United States land cover data in vector format look at http://water.usgs.gov/GIS/dsdl/ds240/index.html.

I have the NED 30 data for Maine. I will get the NED 10 data make 20  contours foot from the two data sets and see the  NED 10  contours are better.  I am using gdal_contour to make contours so the  GeoTiff format good.

The 12-digit watershed has polygons of the land of the watershed. For gps maps we need the surface water features such as lakes and ponds. The USGS NHD database has that. I will e-mail you
