Ok I think is see whats happening.  In the G disk you named Derek which is the SD card  you formatted to fat 32, create a folder and name it Garmin (as I spelled it) copy your .img file to that folder, power cycle gps and CA-Central... should be their.  I'm not a home now so I'd need to look at one of my gps's but I think there is a setting for internal/external maps.  Give this a try, I'll also look later at the settings on my unit(s) and post back.

It is considered a better practice to put your maps on the sd card as I've seen stories here and elsewhere about people borking, mucking and bricking their units when they accidentally delete stuff they shouldn't have in the internal memory

It should work...  The first question are you transferring the.img to the GPS internal or to an SD card, formated in fat32?   What are the other maps or .img files are you seeing and what do you see on the maps screen?  What size is the Central Prov Topo showing on your computer?  I have a couple ideas on what may be happening, I or others just need a bit more info to move forward.

I can explain what I do and you can say if you did the same or not:  I use Windows and when I plug the usb in using the Garmin cable I soon see two "disks" related to Garmin.  One is for the device and the other is for map storage.  The may have names similar to Internal and Memory Card.  I open the memory card one and there should be a folder named Garmin, it is within this folder that I copy any .img.  After the copy is complete I verify size, unplug the usb and power cycle the gps.  After it powers back up I should have the map available to enable or disable.

I have worked with both OSM and mp data...   It could be me or someone else who can best answer your question when we know what you are trying/wanting/hoping to do.  A garmin.img type of map?  A static paper map?  Give us something to work with at least some detail of your project and we will be in a better position to answer your questions.

Glad you were able get the the file downloaded this morning.  I did a little digging about chrome not downloading and opening the developer console kept coming up in the troubleshooting steps OR just nuke the current setup and start over, if this is any help.

The number look familiar so I looked through my notes and 836 is CA-CentralProvTopo, one of the maps I made.  Is this what you are looking to download?  Try the link here and see if that works or copy and paste in your address bar.

The new maps for Canada, US and Mexico goes beyond...  I actually started working on this before the Mt Everest and South America maps, but just recently finished working on them.
A word of "warning" of sorts, these maps are dense and may take some extra time to load, zoom etc.  This was the case when testing my devices at the highest detail, though YMMV.

To Lost...

The renaming to gmapsupp.img that I gave to another poster was the fact that they have an older Garmin gps unit which is limited to a 4gb card AND a single mapset AND gmapsupp is the only name the unit recognizes.

After extracting the zip file you should have a folder which is called 
CA-CentralProvTopo.gmapi   from your screen shot  that has happened.  The files and folders you see are what should be there.  Anyway,  make sure basecamp is properly installed and if so close it.  Click on the gmapi folder, the highest level folder, it should trigger the mac to install the mapset.  When it is finished you should now have the central prov topo as a drop down choice in basecamp.  This should go for any map, not just mine, that are offered in the gmapi format  Let us know how is goes.

Thank you for the compliment on the WestProvTopo.  I've enjoyed (mostly) the whole process of making the maps I have.  I'm happy that others may find them useful for their purposes.  While I didn't set out do this to receive accolades, it is appreciated.  I understand what you maybe went through on your overlay.  Mapmaking is less "trial and error" and more "error and sometime success".   Thanks again and enjoy.

One of my GPS unit is also the HCx Vista!  Mine still works great.  You didn't say exactly what kind of map you are looking for but you might take a look here:  https://alternativaslibres.org/en/downloads.php

Some maps require donation/registration others request a donation.  Down towards the bottom of the page are the links for several versions the guy offers for Australia.  If you choose the GPS version, after extracting you may need to rename the .img file to gmapsupp.img as this is the only name our model will take.  Also the sd card must be 4>gb or at least formated for no more that 4>gb fat32 (larger cards work but excess space must be unused)

Prior to making my own maps I tested these guy maps, on basecamp, gps and orux they worked on all of them.  These maps are quite "loaded" fyi as most every poi etc is included.

Australia is kinda under represented but start here.  It will get a map on your unit and give you time to seek out other possibilities if needed.

First, did you not notice the little "c"  means COPYRIGHT, your are unlikely to find help on this site to 'edit' another's work, this is not the place to ask!

Second, Have you contacted the author of the map and/or read and understand the Open Street Map license terms and to see if making the edit you want is allowed?

Third, if you don't have the computer skills to do what you want to do it's not something you should be doing!

In addition to displaying the maps I've been making, Orux maps https://www.oruxmaps.com/cs/en/more/downloads will display geopdf's as well as several other formats.  Orux is free from the authors site (optional to donate) or pay for the googleplay version which doesn't really give you any more functionallity.  It's android only so use your own or get some old phone on ebay and a micro sd and your set.  There is a learning curve to the app, but it has A LOT of features.  I've been using it for 5+ years and it's great.  I've also tried a lot of other apps (though not Avenza) both the free and (cough, cough, pro, cough, cough versions) of other apps and they seem lacking.

The FS geopdf's are basically quads with designated trails, etc.  On a computer various layers can be peeled away for viewing though it is complete map on Orux.  Personally I'm weary of most of the paid, subscription or "in app purchase" models as comparable solutions can be found with a little bit of work on the users end.  Give this a go and see if it works for your needs.  You can always buck up later if it doesn't.  If you have any more questions you can post here or pm me and I'll see if I can help.

Updated US-AlaskaTopo!  Since the last update I've gain a little more knowledge into the Open Street Map world.  The last map was made with the most current at the time, and the only data I used, but not necessarily the most complete.   When I downloaded the most recent Alaska "extract" several land areas were flooded in in coastal areas.  I also compared the extract to previous versions which didn't have the flooding and also had a somewhat more complete displaying of several prominent boundary's (ANWR for one).  As the "community" can edit OSM they can add, remove or change the data.  Mostly people do so correctly, but not always.  Alaska is a small population state and of course a big area.  Some data has never been added and it looks like some was deleted and not re uploaded.  What one may see using OSM on the web is not necessarily what is available in the data that is downloaded as an extract and visa versa, I plan on investigating this in the future.

With that said I'll now talk about the Alaska update.

I lived in Alaska and at one time or another visited many of the units within the Alaska State Park system.  As near as I can tell several of the larger state park unit boundary's (and trails) have been submitted to osm and are available as part of the data extract, but most of the 150+ units had not.  I went to the Alaska DNR website and downloaded the boundary's and trails and merged those with a slightly older osm data extract  to process to what we can now see.  I fully expect to upload the State Park boundary's and trail to osm in the near future.

NPS, Forest Service, BLM and UFWS land boundary's seem to come and go.  Either "accidentally" deleted, incorrectly tagged or some other reason.  In order to make sure I was including what I wanted in the map I went to the respective land management entity, download boundary data and merged it like i did State Park data.  I need to do more research but intend to upload or re upload missing data as appropriate.

As I've analyzed and made my various maps Alaska has stood out as being more incomplete when using just OSM data which is why I've supplemented it with other sources.  Hopefully this gives the user a less incomplete map for whatever purposes they may have.

Sorry you are having trouble getting the map on your 60csx.  Some others on this site may have more to add about your model since I don't have that same model but...

When I was doing some early testing I used my etrex 30 and an old etrex hcx vista.  The 30 will accept multiple maps in named format and cards up to 32gb.  The vista is limited to 4gb card and one mapset.  My quick research showed the 60csx is limited to a 4gb card.  It looks like my vista is similar to yours.  There are a couple of routes (no pun intended) to pursue:

-Make a copy of the CA-CentralProvTopo and rename it gmapsupp.img (older models will ONLY accept this name.  On your gps the folder on your sd card must be named Garmin exactly as I typed it.  Copy and paste the gmapsupp.img into the Garmin folder.  This is all assuming that your gps is attached to your computer and the proper usb cable is used for 2 way communication between the computer and device.  Remove cable and power cycle gps and maps should now load.  Keep in mind if you have other maps on the card they will be overwritten.  Get some more 4gb cards or learn to format and partition larger size cards to 4gb or less to swap out cards if needed.  I have about 8 2-4gb cards that I used in the past for the vista.

-One possibility that mapinstall cannot see your gps is that your basecamp version is older than 4.7.1, so make sure you basecamp is currrent.  There are other threads here about this.

You are not the first or will be the last who faces challenges getting maps to their gps regardless if the are Garmins own maps or custom made Garmin compatible maps.  Be persistent, expect to learn and be frustrated and eventually succeed.  Let us know how it goes.
