I have one of these and it has been great for my deer hunting and short backpacking treks.

Yes, the basemap will meet your needs.....for now.

The maps here are absolutely fantastic!  Find the one for your area and download it.  Very simple.  Even though you only have 24mb of storage, using the map tool in Map Source, I was able to load enough map segments from the Michigan Topo here to get me 400 miles north to the Upper Peninsula.  When I trekked beyond those maps, the base map kicked in.

That depends.  I now have a 60CSx and the features included are great.  However, I still use my Venture HC for deerhunting and frogging through the Michigan woods and forests.  It does all I need it to do.

That said, let me warn you......once she's been "bitten" by the fun of playing with a GPSr, you will have several more options for her upcoming birthday gifts.  :)

This site has all the best stuff on the Internet for your pleasure in the great outdoors.  Have fun!

GPSr Units / Re: 12-volt adaptor for the 60CSx
June 11, 2010, 06:48:43 AM
Silly me.  I didn't phrase my question too well.  I was looking for a 4pin serial connector adapter.  I did find one at the Garmin site and at Cabelas.  I just got off the phone with Garmin Support and they said there is no difference between using the serial connector or the USB.  I already have a USB adapter, but I seem to hook everything up to it creating a spagetti bowl effect on my dash board (as if adding a serial port connector would eliminate any pre-existing wires.)

Thanks for being here.

Thanks.

The reason I ask is because Cabelas or Amazon sell one but I didn't see any indication that it was for something like the 60CSx.  I kept seeing a reference to 76.

I couldn't really find but one doing an internet search.  Would you make a suggestion to get me started?  OTHER than, search the internet.... :)

Thanks again!

GPSr Units / 12-volt adaptor for the 60CSx

My buddy has a 12-volt adapter for his 60CSx that hooks to the serial pin "thingy."  I use the USB port when I'm in the truck.  Which is better for the device?

Naw.  Michigander.

Wow!  That program is a fun bunch of screens.  Will probably take me a year to figure it out.  Hell, I just figured out how to get certain maps into my GPSr!

Thanks for the help.  I really appreciate it.

So, I have to use the raw track data with the time stamps?  And I have to have a track point where the picture was taken? And a waypoint?

I am wondering if I can use the raw track data, a waypoint that I create in Mapsource, and any old picture I like to and then have it show up in GE.

OR, do I H....A.....V.....E.... to follow the instructions and have the camera synced to the GPS

How much more fun can I have with this 60CSX!!!

Well, hush my mouth!  I'll give her a try!!!!

PS:  IT must be a violation of some universal law to be having this much fun......

Great tips.  thanks.

I am not logging to the data card as I want to see the tracks on my device.
Yep, I understand post processing.  I clean it all up when I get home.

All of these questions and such are for me to get to know the 60csx for hunting and backpacking where I won't have a computer until I get back home.  I was concerned how the multiple active log tracks were being generated and, once again, you folks came to the rescue.

Thanks for the tips on setting the distance for road travel and for walking.

Great site with some of the most helpful folks on the Internet.

Is there some better setting for the track log in the 60csx?  I made about a 20 mile trek around my town (stopped here, stopped there, turned it off, turned it on, etc) and there were several track logs with 0 feet recorded and several with small distances.  I have it set to Auto.  Should it be set to Time or Distance?

Thanks for your help!

Well, that is great information from such a simple question.

Thanks for your leg work.....and for finding my answer.

Thanks.  Understand completely now.  I believe I will get tons of fun from my 60CSx no matter how many files it can read.  I'll just make bigger files.......

Again, thanks.
