Somewhere there is a setting that causes the data to generalize when imported.  Make sure that is off.

GPSr Units / Re: etrex 10 and basecamp

Serial devices do not work with Basecamp.  You can use Mapsource though with the Etrex 10. You can export the info from Basecamp to a file and then open the file in Mapsource.

I've never had any problems with refurb units.

GPSr Units / Re: Garmin 60CSX Power issue?

It is most likely the contacts between the battery case and the main board.  All of the garmin handhelds have contacts between the battery case and the board instead of hard wires.  These become dirty or loose and cause intermittent power loss.

Open the case and clean the contacts, then bend them out to give more pressure.  Just Google if you need details.  It is quite easy.  It is a common problem when mountain biking as the vibration knocks these units out.

The correct work should be "overlay" and not "transparent" and that will help understand what the maps are doing better.

To elaborate on popej's link:
4GB is the limit of vector maps a 62x or 78x can access.  If you have a larger card than that the space will need to be used for raster maps, either Birdseye or CustomMaps.
That is not true.  Individual files can't be larger than 4GB.  This is a limitation of the FAT32 file system.  However, you can have multiple map files.  A run around 12 GB of vector maps on my GPS.

It is the accuracy circle.  It is a combination of GPS accuracy and map accuracy.  There is a setting somewhere to turn it on and off.

I'm "guessing" he means he is uploading tracks from the GPS to Google Earth.

I would suggest using GPSBabel to convert the KMZ files to GPX format.  you can then import them into GPSMapedit or use something like GPX2IMG.

The option was in the betas and removed for the public release.  There are lots of free programs that bring back the start menu and are much better than what Microsoft ever did.

Map Making Support / Re: Topo maps Canada

Google or look here for Ibycus Topo Maps.  Ibycus has compiled all of the government data along with up to date road data into a single map set for the entire country.  You need to download via a torrent.  Due to the size, nobody has taken on the task of hosting it.

Have it on as close to the flight as possible.  I've done it a few times.

All garmin handhelds since the 60 series auto-archive tracks.  Even all newer Nuvis auto-archive.

So you just created all the routing nodes and verified the map in GPSMapedit and then compile the .mp file in cgpsmapper?
Yes, that is what I do.

Once question though - for cgpsmapper I was following Rotweiler's Routing guide (http://www.cgpsmapper.com/download/RotweilersAuto-routingGuide.pdf) and it requires creating  .shp files with routing information and then compiling build.mp. Is that the how you compile your map or is there an easier way ?
No, all my routing information has been created within GPSMapedit.

One of your points is "they overlay each other".  You can turn different maps on and off in the settings of the GPS.
