Oz,

I tried the link that you provided and still did not work in the RSS app. I will write the authors of the app to see if they have  any suggests. I will try the link in the browser if I get the chance.
      Thanks for help...

Site Support / RSS Feed for the forum is not working

To Whom it Concerns

Is there an issue with the RSS feed for the forum? Both my browser ( Firefox ) RSS feed and my RSS App on my iPad stopped receiving feeds for GPSFileDepot's forum. I tried to copy the link for the forum and paste it into the RSS App, and the RSS App rejected it. Any help will be appreciated.

I know this is off topic but I was just wondering if anyone knew if GpsBabel software is gone for good. I went onto the its official website ( www. gpsbabel.org ), and it said that host could not be contacted.

thanks for the info.

Hi Telebruce,

Have you tried to set your preference to UTM?  I did a test print in BaseCamp, and it was able to print a map overlay with UTM grid. This was using NY TOPO from GPSFILEDEPOT. Try another map to see if BaseCamp is able to print UTM.

hope it helps..

Virinski,

Take a look at this website if the topo map suits your needs....

http://www.freizeitkarte-osm.de/en/more-countries.html

If the maps do suits your needs, please give some money to the developer since this product will be use in commercial situation....

Hi,
Just got a Garmin Oregon 450t.  The including maps don't really show any terrain features.  Supposedly they are the USA Topo 1:100,000.  Where can i get good quaility Topographical maps of Long Island. Free is best, but not required. I downloaded the NE USA Topo 1 of 3, which has all of NY State, but cuts out Long Island
thanks
John,

Another program that you want to install is Google Earth. It lets you import and store your gpxs. Google Earth also presents your hike, or walk, in 3D. You can go Google to download the program.. hope it helps.

QuoteYes, you can have gpx tracks in BaseCamp that is on top of the kmz.

How do you manage to show both kmz-map and gpx-track?
If I have the kmz-map in BaseCamp and choose a gpx-track I get the simple worldmap as my map background and the fine kmz-map disappears!

In  BaseCamp, you need to place kmz in very top hierarchy folder.  When you select the top hierarchy folder, you will see the GPXs and KMZ.  At this point, you just select the GPX and BaseCamp will show both the GPX and KMZ.

I have imported my kmz rastermap and I can show it in BaseCamp. I have a few question (numbered):

(1)
Wonder if it is possible to show a gpx-track on top of a kmz-rastermap in BaseCamp
(2)
Do you know any other program(s) wich can show my tracks ? I does not necessarily have to be on rastermaps.
(3)
Is it possible to show more than one track on a map? (My purpose is to see one/many tracks from a given area).
(4)
Also I am doubt about how to document my tracks with photos? The time on my etrex30 and my camera may differ one minute or so.

Greetings from Kokkari - Samos - Greece  :)
Lars

Lars,

I would try to answer your questions:

1) Yes, you can have gpx tracks in BaseCamp that is on top of the kmz.

2) I use Google Earth is another program you can use with Kmz and gpx tracks. What I like about Google Earth is the 3D aspect of hike.

3) In both Google Earth and BaseCamp you can see multiple gpx at once. All you need to do is select the appropriate gpx.

4)I guess Google Earth and BaseCamp has the capabilities of Geo-tagging. I never use it myself.

hope it helps, Reinhard

Site Support / Uploading a map to GPSFile Depot
May 22, 2012, 06:13:09 AM
Hi,

I wonder if someone can help with a problem that I am having uploading a kmz map. I have created a kmz map of the Adirondacks High Peaks.  I gone where I click host file on GPSFileDepot, and fill out the form, and uploaded the kmz compressed. I waited till the file was total uploaded.
When I go to the map page, the information is there but no map. It says that the map is not hosted by GPSFileDepot, thus, thinking I have not uploaded it correctly and uploaded the map again. Still the map page says that file is not hosted by GPSFileDepot.
If there is an issue with copyright, I would like to know since I will remove the map page. Let me know the issue is ...

thanks, Reinhard

QuestionGps,

You can go to www.wikiloc.com and www.wandermap.net to get some tracks from activities ranging from hiking to kayaking. You can download in both kml and gpx format. They only provide tracks but not the maps.

hope it helps.

Seldom,

As Indrid Cold indicated time stamp is in UTC. The GPX's data standard is UTC for the time stamp, Lat / Long using WGS 84 Datum, and elevation is in meters.  You can find out  more here  ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GPS_eXchange_Format
