Thanks for the information guys!  With this information, what map or maps would you use? The 1:24 topo maps & overlays with topo data is most important to me. The others are just features.

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Hunting maps & overlays
February 23, 2010, 01:38:45 PM
I am new to the GPS world, I am looking for some recommendations on use of maps and overlays.

What would be some of the better 1:24 topo maps & overlays with topo data, trails, maybe roads for driving from the airport to the trailhead? The states that I am most interested in are Colorado, Idaho and Montana, which will be primarily used for hunting.

I am not sure which is more accurate and useful the "state" topo or the US Planimetric version.

My devices for this use are the 60CSx and  Rhino 530 HCx.

Thanks in advance!

When I connect the unit to the computer, using the Garmin cable it sees the connection.

But, when I execute the software update, it says that the unit is not responding.

I am running Vista 64-bit and the unit is showing the Interface is "Connected" and "Garmin"

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry, I missed that detail!  I will be using the Garmin 60CSx unit. Which is brand new, just purchased it last Friday.

I think that the largest card that this unit will take is a 2GB.

I wonder if any of the maps from this site show color separate WMA, BLM, state lands and the like?

Thanks!

seldom - is the CityNavNANT software the same as the City Navigator North America? Or is developed by a 3rd party somewhere else?

I will primarliy be using the GPS to use for hunting, backcountry hiking and hunting and to use as a driving GPS when needed in the states of Arizona, Colorado, Idaho, Kansas, Montana, New Mexico and Wyoming.

I see that OZ has created the Idaho Topo Map.  What are the functional differences between the Idaho Topo to Garmin's US Topo West and Garmin's Topo 2008?

Is there any need for me to purchase the Garmin TOPO U.S. 24K North Central DVD or Garmin MapSource City Navigator North America 2010?

As a newbie, which tutorials should I begin with to get started using my GPS?

Are there any other tips or downloads that I should use?

Thanks in advance!
