Site Support / Re: Domain forwarding issue
March 02, 2012, 02:10:33 PM
Eaparks emailed me this:

The hack/being redirected is back again, at least for me.  I'm not able to access GPSFileDepot, I'm being redirected to a site address called "rmore79riveru.rr.nu" (194.28.114.103.80).

I can just briefly see that there have been several post in the Download thread on GPSFileDeopt on the home page but I am redirected and blocked by Norton so I unable to see what everyone is saying about this.  If you are able to get on GPSFileDepot your welcome to say I'm unable to access the website if it will help in the discussion going on.  If there is a solution being discussed please advise me since I'm unable to participate in the discussion.

Thanks
Ed

I am still getting the redirect in Internet Explorer.  I tried deleting history, temp files, and files.

I just deleted my browsing history and temp files.  I then tried the site again with IE9and I got redirected.

Is there any danger in downloading the maps?

I cannot access the site using Internet Explorer.  My previous message where I said it was happening again I was able to cut and paste before Norton blocked the redirect.  I am on firefox now and I am not having any trouble,  Just before opening firefox, IE blocked me.  So has the site been hacked or what the heck is going on?

That is what I was getting too.  But as I mentioned I was getting the Norton warning up to this afternoon.  Then it started redirecting to other places.  Now it seems to be working.

I tried it and it said I do not have it.

It only happens on this site and it has not happened for a while now.  Yesterday every time I would go to the site, Norton would give me a warning.

Is there another issue with the name server again?  Starting yesterday I started getting messages like this whenever I tried to access this site (no problems on any other sites):

Malicious Web Site Blocked

You attempted to access:

http://www3.thebesttuchecker.de.lv/?p3ma=lKjWxbGdm5KbmeDnspCai9ff0a%2BlZJ%2BW1ZzKksqkpJg%3D

This is a known malicious web site. It is recommended that you do NOT visit this site. The detailed report explains the security risks on this site.

For your protection, this web site has been blocked. Visit Symantec to learn more about phishing and internet security.

So I went and tried my laptop and the same thing would happen (and it only happened on this site.

It was still happening today on both computers execpt I would get messagres like

sweepstakesandcontestsdo.com

Oops! Internet Explorer could not connect to astre09atyqr.rr.nu

I emailed some others to see if they were having problems and they said they were not.  Now it is an intermittent problem.  I've tried what worked when it happened before, but it still keeps happening.

I'm running IE9 on both computers.

I found some Quetico campsite and portage data: http://w3.cs.jmu.edu/arch/hobbies/camp/maps/quet-pcd/code/index.php

I emailed the owner to ask permisison to add the data to My Trails.  Since My Trails is  non commerical use, I am not sure if I need permission (site said permisison needed for commerical use).  But I am asking anyway.

General Discussion / Re: Google Earth to GPSMAP 60CSx?
February 14, 2012, 05:48:13 PM
I do not think anyone has answered your question.  I don't know what you mean by creating the route with a ruler.  Use the path tool.

Then upgrade to the new version of BaseCamp that just came out.  It will import the GE file with your route as a track.  You can then send it to your GPS.

Another posibility is he may have mapsets with the same img file name.  The OP needs to be clear on which maps he is using.  Are all 3 maps4gps?  If not, there could be a conflcit with img file names.  The OP may also have some other map on the GPS that has the same file name.  A long time ago, Eastern Land Ownership and Western Land Ownership had an img with the same name for one of the imgs.  Until I fixed the problem, if you loaded both map sets, only one mapset (not the conflciting img, but the entire mapset) would show on the GPS.

Are both the CO and WY maps by the same author?  The CO and WY maps should have overlap.  Your problem could be you are loading coverage of the same area from both the CO and WY maps.  So try not loading coverage for the same area from both maps.

Suggest garmin fix basecamp so you can see multiple maps at the same time here:

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Re: Map off??
January 20, 2012, 08:42:12 AM
Its clearly a data error.  All maps have them.  Generally they are right 99% of the time.

However, TIGER census data always appears to be slightly off- 25-50 feet.  If you compare City Navigator to census data, the roads will normally not match up perfectly.  And its the census data that is normally off.  If you field check the differences or use GoogleEarth, it will show CN is normally correct.  I suspect the tiger data is just not draw to the same degree of accuracy.  Its intended for paper maps for census enumarators-not for use in a GPS.  So they don't need to draw the data in as high of resolution as a GPS can detect.

But what you are showing is not an accuracy issue, it is a bad data issue.

General Discussion / Re: Transparent Overlays

This thread is requesting basecamp be modified to allow more than one map displayed at a time.  Its about Windows, but if they do it on Windows they should also do it on MAC

The more people who ask for this, the more likely they will provide it.
