The US States and Counties shows up in MapSource and in MapInstall, but not in BaseCamp's Maps --> Map Product list (or toolbar dropdown).  Odd...

I just noticed this, too. Is this a known non-feature? or am I (are we) doing something wrong?

Yes, I still have a Lowrance ExpeditionC rattling around somewhere (iFinder series, like the H2O and Hunt models, etc). This was  my first mapping-capable unit -- to replace my Garmin GPS45 -- and I thought I was in heaven. The online simulator was amazing... at the time. Sadly, I joined many, many others in a common frustration with the iFinder units: after working great for a few years, it then decided to quit locating satellites with any consistency. All of the usual fixes tried to no avail. After upgrading to the Garmin 62st and all of its far more advanced capabilities, I wondered why I didn't jump sooner. About the only Lowrance guys left around here are those who haven't yet upgraded to Humminbird... units mounted on their fishing boats with old LakeMaster chips installed.

I use Energizer Ultimate lithium exclusively in my Garmin 62st. Yes, they do last 8-10x longer than regular Duracell, which used to be my go-to for most devices. A fresh set will give me at least 2 days of use while in the BWCA, running 8-10 hours per day.

No, the dot is fine, and very intuitive.
Perhaps additional info at left that tells the dimensions of your selection, not just the total area... like '32x36' or '8x9' in addition to the '1152 tiles over 72 images' info.

Just thinking about when downloading a series of consistently-sized map files...

I found it to be an incredible resource. Well done.

Only frustration I had was making sure I didn't highlight an area that was too large, resulting in lower resolution map results when downloading. Found myself wishing that I could just default to a 10x10 tile -- or maybe whatever the max would be at lower resolutions -- and then move it around the map.

Mostly, it's people beating their chests, mocking you for "cheating" and/or "laziness" when you should really "man up" and master the skill of map-and-compass. ("Like I did, and dad did before me, and grandpa...") Well, guess what? I do gps AND map-and-compass, and it still bothers some people. Pay no heed.

I was all excited to see that the latest update (4.30) allows alphabetizing of waypoints, but - alas - not tracks. Why not, Garmin?

On my 62st, they are listed closest->farthest away. I have repeatedly requested of Garmin to consider menus for alphabetical and/or user-defined grouping, to no avail.

To delete a point, I just dbl-click a track and move about in the resulting Track Properties Summary window to the offending point on the track and hit Delete. To reposition a point, choose the Selector (arrow) tool and drag an existing point. To insert a point, choose the Selector (arrow) tool and command-drag from a spot on the track to the new point's desired position.

This is on a Mac. Seems like it should be just as easy on a PC.

lawestpar: I seem to remember having trouble initially when I tried saving the entire current track. Lost a couple tracks that way somehow so now I always choose Save Portion. Even if there is only one portion, it's easy to just use that same portion for the start and end for your saved track. Anytime I turn it off it will start a new portion so if I go to another starting point and start out, even if I forget to save and clear, I can save the portions separately. If you still get that straight line from the end of one to the start of the other, it can be edited in BaseCamp, too.

Well, I finally got around to following your instructions, Boyd. It actually was pretty easy and took only a few minutes, but the results were certainly disappointing. I was glad to have gone through the process for future reference, but -- thankfully -- I had previously found multiple solutions which are far superior.

On both computer platforms, I wound up with an opaque map that had dozens of straight line markings similar to tracks but not. Turns out to be just a map that includes markings for portages and campsites, but they aren't waypoints or tracks so keeping it seems rather pointless, especially with no obvious way to change the opacity.

Yeah, not sure what the transition problem was. My old Mac's HD was completely dead, so I was using my Time Machine HD for the backups. Maybe that was part of the hitch. Also something with usernames either not being the same or being the same or some such made it hard to see both Library folders. Couldn't remember some of those old settings and had no way of seeing them until I got started. But... All's well, now, in that regard. My experience with Macs since '84 came in handy.

Thanks for the ideas. I think I searched the backup drive for .kmz and .kml already; I'll look again. I still have the .jpg files, and it's only 7 of them so no biggie to redo the referencing, I was just hoping to not have to do it again.

I just replaced my iMac, and so I'm going through the tedious process of making sure that all my old files are on the new iMac. Although Apple's automatic transfer method didn't work for me, I had TimeMachine keep backups of Documents, Preferences, User Library folder, etc for me (thankfully!)

I had created some custom maps in Google Earth and brought them into BaseCamp. Those files, I found just fine. Some other maps, I georeferenced in Google Earth, but never sent them over to BaseCamp. Those files, I have no idea where to look.

Ideas from Mac users as to where I'd find those map files?

This is perfect. A fishing buddy is the computer instructor at the high school from which I recently retired, so it is certainly doable. I tried downloading that mapset in his lab a few months back and had my flash drive ready and everything, but could not figure out what to do with the resulting .exe files, etc. Looks like it will take a bit of time, but not all that complicated. Especially when I look back at all of the convoluted things we had to do to make those Windoze machines at school do what we wanted.
