Hello,

I've mainly used MS and have been goofing around with BC lately.  I was creating some preplanned routes using the My Trails (transparent) mapset.  One thing that bugs me is that I can cut and display multiple layers from different mapsets and send to a GPS and see them on that GPS, but I cannot "see" this layering while on either MS or BC.

I have used Delorme's topo software in the past.....that is one thing I did like about their software....if I had a color aerial section and stock trail info, these can be seen together in a 'hybrid" mode.

It would be cool if MS or BC could do this too.  For instance, have MyTrails layered over a topo map, so that they could both be seen on the PC screen at the same time.

Maybe this  already can be done and I've just missed the steps?  If so, can someone share how it might be done?  Thanks.

Well, Oz...took your advice.....the booger just installed right up.  never would have thought that would work.  Thanks.

Ingrid,  MS may be a do-do, but I like the old bird.  :)

Got  a new computer...Successfully downloaded Basecamp and installed it.
Problem came when I downloaded the version of Mapsource from the link in the tutorial on how to install maps if your GPS didn't come with Mapsource..  Tried to run the downloaded version (6.16.3).   During the install, got a warning that "no previous version of mapsource could be found".   Install aborted.

I seem to recall a link here that would allow you to download an older version of MS to avoid this problem.   Can't find it.  Memory tells me it was a 2.XX version.  I can't find a copy of the .exe for that old version on my old computer.

Also, I have never used Basecamp....do I even need Mapsource now?  I have a really old Garmin Legend.....can BC be used with it? Thanks.

No handle bar....sure you have one.  Seems like you could make a mount that attaches by velcro or tape to the saddle horn. Some springy metal between a standard bike mount and the horn. That way you can still glance at it, but the flexible metal stalk could give in case the horse rares his head.   I've seriously mulled this over for my horse riding brother in Wy.

Or simpler......just a draw string bag tied to the horn.

I, and lots of others here, were using MapSource before BaseCamp came out.  I just downloaded it and installed it, and all the stuff I had installed from my old MapSource installation now shows up in both.

Thanks.  Can you tell if there is a way to print maps with coordinate grid lines?  In another thread here someone mentioned that you could make map prints with UTM or Lat/Lon....I assumed this was for gridding on prints.  I never could find a way to do that in Mapsource.

When I first came here to try the maps your tutorial recommened using a certain version of Mapsource (link was available here).

What I'd like to know is are the maps here for use in BasecamP also now?  Also, will I have to reload downloaded maps that are already on my version of Mapsource to the new Basemap program?  Thanks.

I was able to check out the new maps.  They look great.  Both bundles.

Outstanding.

I've never seen a paper (or any kind of) map of the Forever Wild lands here.  Can't wait to give it a look.  Will also check out your Trails one too.

Also, if I can accumulate a bundle of on the ground corrections I will send them to you and Ashley in the future.

(figured I just use this thread to ask a new quesiton instead of making a new thread...seeing how it's related.)

I noticed that JBensman has aquired more information this week and updated his Trails and Land Ownership maps again. (BTW, Jim, thanks again.)  I downloaded his Land Ownership map last week when he updated it.  Now, this week, it's got even more info and I want this week's updated map in Mapsource now.

Do I have to delete last week's version, or will this week's version overwrite or replace the older version automatically when I run the install exe?

Just wanted to publicly thank Jim Bensman.

He just added this Alabama WMA stuff to his surface management map.  Downloaded it last night and shot a map to my 60csx.  His map laid over the SEtopo looks great.   I was wondering how it would look where National Forest (greened areas on the SETopo).  He used a lighter shade of green and it looks great where the two meet and overlap.   Wasn't expecting the data that fast either. Hat's off to you Jim.

Sounds good. Thanks for the update.

Thanks.  Ms. Peters emailed me back and said she was in touch with you.  I didn't hear back from the Tidwell fellow yet.

The lady emailed me today.  She said Fish and Game OK'd the release of the WMA and Forever Wild shape files.

JBensmen, I sent you an email if you're interested.

I don't know why the state site is down.  I don't even know if the lady I've been dealing with is affliated with that site (was phone-treed to her from contacts at Fish and Game)  Noticed there is an email contact at that site listed if you need assistance.  I'll shoot one to see if I get a reply.

Don't know how to do that....any hints?
