I find so many bugs in Garmin products I have a hard time paying for more?? Beside if I can view my, and others, tracks on Everytrails.com, why bother.

Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Terrain View...
September 24, 2011, 06:27:42 AM
Hi All, Just wondering if is is possible to get the Terrain View, like in google maps, into Basecamp.. It is a much nicer to view TOPO the the flat 2D topo..

Also, Garmin removed the terrain view from Garmin Connect, because the use bing maps..

Now I use EveryTrail.com which is awesome for loading your track into...

Here is a view of my hike last weekend...

GPSr Units / oregon 450t
May 26, 2010, 12:47:18 PM
Does anybody know if you can increase the volume of the tone it makes.. Along with tracking through the backcountry I use it on my motorcycle on the road.. I had the 60csx which had a nice churp noise.. The Oregon I like a lot better except for the low beep...

GPSr Units / Can't unlock maps
May 25, 2010, 06:04:15 PM
Hi, every time I turn on my Oregon 450t it says "Can't unlock maps"... But I seam to have my maps up and running..
Question #2:
When I look at the map on my GPS, I loaded City Navigator 2009, then I saw 2011 But it still has both versions.. How can I delete the 2009 version off the GPS.. One more point, I'm using a mac and it doesn't have mapsource, so I used mapinstall and basecamp.. I'm some what new on the mac as well, don't know how to look at the GPS memory as a directory?

thanks,
Bill

General Discussion / ? on trip odometer vs. mapsource
January 20, 2009, 06:41:39 AM
I went snowshoeing last Sunday on the AT in Vt. and decided to track the trail, 2 questions.

I reset the trip odometer and started the tracks. I went out 2.01 miles according to the trip odometer. Stopped the track and saved it. When I loaded it into map source it said I went 2.9 miles. Why is this different? There was a little elevation gain but not much.

And, the day before I snowshoed up a hill behind my house, Pretty steep for 1/4 mile.. But my dog was pretty cold so my friends went on and I ran back down to put her in the house and back up... OK I started at about 1000' elevation, went up to 1750'... went back down to where I started and back up. But when I profile it, it shown me starting at 1000, but when I came back down to the same spot the elevation only went down to 1440 or so.. How can this be so far OFF... And at the end it says I finished at about 1500 ' .
I use the 60csx but I don't have a TOPO for Vermont. thanks, Bill

Hi, I'm pretty new so bare with!!!
I loaded City Navigator or New England area and the Mass TOPO I found here. Is there an easy way to toggle back and forth. Currently it looks like I have to deselect all the maps in City Navigator to see the Topo on the GPS. There is 10 or so topo maps and 30 some odd Street maps.. This ca be a pain..
thanks,
Bill
