Thanks popej,

I will look into that. I had also considered variants of the map but also considering making it selective. The map I'm working on has 400 different tracks (polylines, the initial objective) with a potential for of 45 catagories of POI with a total number exceeding 1200.

I had worked with the levels which much success on My GoldWing built in unit and Zumo 550 and 600, hover my Nuvi's tend to be inconsistant and appear to display roads and POI at original (OEM) levels ignoring what I have set up in GPSMapEdit. Yes, I'm using the very same files.

Your input however is greatly appreciated and may be followed.

Thanks again

I have a question concerning Inno or rather looking for some ideas. I have created transparent map files containing polylines for roads and points for various POI. I would like to add more POI without having the map cluttered with Icons of POI the end user is not interested in. My icons are 32x37 so they can be easily viewed while riding a motorcycle. However, if I can allow the end user to choose the POI he/she is intersted in seeing then the end map is less cluttered.

I'm experimenting by creating a separate .img file for each POI catagory. Then combining the Polyline .img and .typ file with the various POI .img files. I'm using SendMap20.

Secondly I am trying to incorporate using GMAP files after conversion to avoid the regisry entries.

I have been sucessful on both counts. However, now I would like to provide this functionallity within the INNO setup file so the end user could select what POI he/she wants included during the installation to PC, making it a matter of loading one map to the GPSr.

Am I asking for to much? Just trying to make it very simple on the users end. Especially those new to GPS and/or somewhat computer illiterate.

Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated. Looking at Boyds "Map of the Pines" script now, since my script is dated.

Thanks

I just discovered an Older version of my map. It has no issues with BaseCamp. Nor does it have an issue on my Zumo 660. Another isue I was having was the colored typ files for my polylines were black during the day display on the Zumo 660. This has also been corrected. I'm suspecting problems with my files and leaning towards the typ file. Sorry for making you read all this info unnessasarily.

I remain a bit confused by this subject. I have been creating my own transparent maps with variable results on my GPS units. Just when I thought I had worked out my issues so that one map would work well will all my units, I started having touble with BaseCamp.

Units involved: Nuvi 1200 and 1300, Zumo 550 and Honda GoldWing 2010. Zumo and 1300 were stolen from my truck in the driveway and I replaced with Zumo660.

Problem: Created maps using BaseCamp for gpx tracks, then GPSMapEdit then MapSetToolkit using cGPSMapper to compile. Using my own type file created with TypWiz3.

Upon opening Basecamp and selecting my map all I get is a rectangle with nothing in it, it also obscures my other maps. I also cannot load the map to my unit using BaseCamp with MapInstall. I did get the map loaded to the units using SendMap20. Everything appears OK, however on the Nuvi's and now the Zumo 660 when I zoom out beyong my set levels for polylines/tracks to appear the rectangle area of map obscures the units original map.

Since I've got Win7/64 bit I tried loading MyTrails with installer. It's tracks appear but it also obscures my other maps City Navigator NOrth America NT 2013 and Global Map. I just tried installing the mapset using MapSetToolkit and after importing the original mapset recieved the message that the .TDB was not readable.    ??????

Short of rebuilding the map from square one I'm looking for some thoughts on what to look for or if their are other known problems I've yet to discover on this forum.

I've included a screen shot of BaseCamp with MyTrails displayed. My maps appear the same except no content.

Many Thanks

Correction: 0x01 thru 0x04 appear at any level. 0x05 thru 0x09 only appear at levels .8 miles or less. The polylines typ (TypWiz3) appear correctly but it seems that cGPSMapper map properties Level tab settings are not having any effect on my Nuvi 1300.

I have been creating transparent overlay maps and only using typ files for polylines thus far. I have set all polylines to extend to the same zoom level, however when installed on my Nuvi 1300 they appear at different levels. 0x00, 0x01 and 0x02 (road types) seem to function correctly but 0x04 and beyond require additional zooming to appear. Any chance these issues are related? Or does someone know of a fix I can use verse making a separate map file for use with a Nuvi? Is this an issue with the entire Nuvi line or just some of the series?

Actually that might be a better approuch. I was planning on embedding in a transparent overlay map but was also thinking about creating TourGuide files to go along with it. I want to make these for Honda GoldWing Navigation Units. I got an overlay map to work so I think I'll see what I can do with the Tourguides. Your idea may save me some work. Thanks.

Thanks Botd. I was afraid of that, just trying to simplify things for making multiple maps.

Map Making Support / Is it possible

Is it possible to install my custom TYP file in Mapsource/Basecamp so that when I am creating my gpx files I can just select the same icon I use with my maps? I'm aware of the custom waypoints but it limits me to 64 icons. Right now I'm having to modify them later in in GPSMapEdit. I'm trying out JaVaWa ImgFromGPX to speed up my process.

Have seen that TypWiz 3 is available but went to the site and cannot download it. Site says to send email for url but no email is listed. Anyone know where to go from here?

Tried sending to [email protected] but recieved message that the email address doesn't exist?

Do the points work on either of your other GPSrs?  If they don't, it's not the nuvi.  Also, not to be picky, but drawOrder defines the order at which polygons draw.  DrawPriority defines which maps show on top of which other maps.

Yes the points work fine on the Zumo 550 and my Honda built in Nav System. Oh, please feel free to pick, I am still learning and it helps to use the proper terminology. You guys here on the forum have been a great help to me as I continue on my learning curve.

Boyd,

I've been staying confused the past few weeks trying to absorb all this stuff.  :o

You want a specific name for your point to be displayed when mousing over, like "Joes Bar and Grill" for an icon that shows a restaurant. This would be the object name, and as you say, it comes from the data in the file you used/ The type label would only say "restaurant".

That is exactly what I wanted. I stand educated "Object Name"
Is this what you mean by Invisible Text?

Seldom,

Tried again and increased the extention level of Points to 2 and had basically the same results. I'm beginning to think it due to it being a low end Nuvi. I haven't used a draw priority because I understand it is only needed with Polygons which I am not using.

My main objective has been to colorcode motorcycling roads based on normal traffic, scenery, curves, and challenges, along with scenic byways and well known motorcycle roads. The POI I'm including are of interest to motorcyclists. Lodging, Dining, Roadside Attractions etc. Finding that I can add something valuable to Honda's Navigation System is a major plus. (Prior to 2012 you were unable to create more than 1 route and it had to be done at the motorcycle, yes that is correct, evryone complained about it)

Seldom,

Yes I drew them at level zero. But I proceeded thru your step anyway. Yes , I have a copy of the manual. Lots of good info but haven't quite figured out if it's related to the Nuvi or not.

Zoom Levels are (0)24, (1) 21, (2) 18, (3) 17, (4) 15, (5) 14
Level 5 is empty
Polys extended to level 3, poi to level 2 was 1 when I posted.

Boyd,

I believe the label is originating from the POI name in the gpx file I used. I have several of the same types but want to display the POI info in the label when I cursor over it not the type label.

Thanks for the suggestions
