GPSr Units / 450T Route Error
July 16, 2011, 09:27:05 AM
HI Guys,

I have a Garmin 450T and have encountered a problem. When I choose a waypoint to navigate to and hit the GO button the unit displays "Calculating..." and then it beeps and says "Route Calculation Error. Maps do not have routable roads in this area."

I don't think it did this before the last little firmware update. Unless I'm mixing it up with how my prehistoric eTrex worked, I think it used to just point a straight line toward my chosen destination and give me information like ETA, or distance to destination. I know my maps aren't routable but it seems like without routable maps it should at least point toward the destination like my old eTrex did.

Am I doing something wrong or do you think something has gone wrong with my 450?

Hi Guys,

I'm brand new here. I just finally replaced my trusty old eTrex with an Oregon 450t.
I was going to get the 450 but I found the 450t for the same price so I figured I may as well get it.

As I'm just starting to learn how to deal with the maps I have a couple of questions.
What software should I be using on my Mac system? I've downloaded BaseCamp and MapInstall but I see other options available. I'm going to use my 450 for hiking.

I loaded up some of the California Topo and the Oregon Topo.
The California Topo is listed twice on the "Select Map" list. Is this correct or was there a problem while installing?

How do I delete maps without deleting the 100k US Topo map that came preinstalled?
I saw people talking about deleting the gpsmapsupp.img file but I was afraid that may be the wrong thing to do. Is the preinstalled map in a separate file?

Thanks for providing such a useful forum!
