Map Making Support / NSIS installer and Windows 8
« on: November 15, 2012, 04:18:39 PM »
Is anybody having problems installing maps on a Windows 8 machine?

Some people who are using my map installation file get an error: "there is a problem with the product Tiger Map Installation -  Please re-install Tiger Map and start mapsource again"

I did some research and can only see that this could be due to the fact that they have a newer version of MapSource on their computer.  Is this the cause?

Map Making Support / Dictionary problem with leveling - EndLevel
« on: October 19, 2009, 03:40:52 PM »
I am having a problem with leveling on one of my maps.

I want all my polygons with mp_type of 0x2e and 0x2f to show up at a further in zoom level than level=19, but on the GPS the polygons are loading at all levels.  These are the only polygons on the map - and the only data on the map.

I believe my problem lies within the dictionary header but have spent all day trying to figure out where.  Can anybody take a look at the attached dictionary and try to steer me in the right direction?

The only thing I can think of now is it might be because its a transparent map???

Map Making Support / GNIS names as an elevation on GPSr?
« on: September 05, 2009, 01:47:56 PM »
Hi, I have another problem with my GPS map that I can't quite pin down where the error is coming from.

I am using GNIS data to show POI's on my topo map.  City names show up fine, Well #s show up fine, but there are some points that don't have a name and when you scroll to them on the GPSr you get the elevation data associated with the name but with the wrong units - i.e. ', 1035 ft'

The contours in the area indicate that the correct elevation should be 1035 meters.

Could this be due to one of the 'Configuration' settings in Global Mapper?

Actually now that I think about it - sometimes the Well #s show up fine but have the comma then the wrong elevation  (i.e. - 67878479 Well, 238 ft)

Map Making Support / running cgpsmapper cpreview from command line
« on: August 20, 2009, 08:41:22 AM »
I couldn't find much in the documentation about creating a text file to tell cGPSmapper which img files to read.  Do any of you have an example file I could look at?  And the batch file if you use one?

This is what I found in the cGPS documentation:

9.3 Creating preview map files
To create the preview and tdb file, you will need to re-run cGPSmapper again after you
have created your .img file. You need to create another text file - similar to a Polish format
file, which tells cGPSmapper which detail maps you want to read, and some configuration
options. cGPSmapper will then read your detail maps, picking up the map details from the
map files, and using these to create the preview map.
C:\mymaps> cGPSmapper pv mypv.mp
From version 0.94 of cGPSmapper it is recommended to use a separate program to create
preview files - cpreview. It uses exactly same input as cGPSmapper for preview generation.
It does not however require command ‘pv’.
C:\mymaps> cpreview mypv.mp

I am using mapsettoolkit v1.62 beta to install some topo maps into Mapsource.  Mapsource generates an error log and closes - there are 10-20 instances (with different product id's)
of this error shown below
  <Error>
    <Exception>
      <SourceCodeLocation>
        <SourceFileName>TDB_REGIONDIR.CPP</SourceFileName>
        <SourceFileLine>164</SourceFileLine>

    </Computer>

  </Error>

Whats confusing is when I do a trial run with 0.1 x 0.1 arc degree portion, the map displays fine in MapSource. Then when I run the whole state I get the error.

Map Making Support / Lower Case Names not displaying - any solution yet?
« on: August 10, 2009, 09:36:34 PM »
I am displaying some tiger data on my GPSr and some of the road names show up with the capital letter then a bunch of dots.  I have a Garmin eTrex Vista HCx

In my dictionary header I tried LBLcode=6 and 9, and have Codepage=1252

Is there any solution for this yet (besides manually entering all caps)?

I searched and only found some info on this thread, but it doesn't provide a definite answer to my question.

Map Making Support / cgpsmapper polygon types - colors?
« on: August 06, 2009, 12:20:20 PM »
I'm looking at section 12.3.3 of the cgpsmapper manual that shows polygon types and their hex codes.  The description is great, but is there any way to see which code represents which color?  Likewise - which POI type represents which symbol in Mapsource or on the GPSr.  Seems like that should be included in the table, unless . . .

Do different Garmin units display different colors for the same polygon type definition?  Different symbol for the POI type?

----

I was thinking of defining custom types with my own colors, but was nervous when I read that some GPSr can't handle TYP files.  Are there many units out there that wouldn't be able to handle custom types?

Hi,

I tried to load this file to MapSource:  http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/maps/view/87/

I didn't follow the instructions and I just saved it to MyDocuments.  I modfied the system registry as directed, but now it says I need to re-install MapSource to use it.

I uninstalled my TopoUSA 2008 completely and reinstalled with the CD that came with my unit.  I still get the re-install message saying there is a problem with my installation.

how can I fix this?
