Help needed to reload Nuvi 5000 back to stock and get MapInstall to work.

I've searched and searched, but cannot find what I need to reload my Nuvi 5000.

Here's the story.....

I bought the Nuvi 5000 near the end of it's retail time.  Mid-2009.  It came loaded with city navigator 2008.  I loaded city navigator 2009 and 2010 (via Garmin.com download).  I ran the listed files till 2013.

I downloaded 2013.10, installed it and ran it successfully, With Garmin Update 3.80 until I purchased a  Garmin 64s handheld. That was 4/2015.

That's when I started to fail.....

Even though BaseCamp doesn't match my thinking style, it worked fine and I've had success, until I tried to share maps between the Nuvi 5000 and the 64s via GarminExpress and a transfer tab within the program.

Failure after failure led me to make mistakes and delete files that I now realize that I need. I also updated the Nuvi 5000 to version 4.10

Yes, I did select all visible files (on the Nuvi 5000) and copied them to my Mac, prior to the major moves, which is running 10.6.8  I have tried to reinstall them, but something still isn't right.

I can't remember every move that I have made, but I have renamed files and deleted files in an attempt to create enough room on the Nuvi for a larger map.  As errors started to come, I ran out of ideas and stopped, only to try again, later.

As it stands now, I have been able to

1. Get the Nuvi 5000 to make tracks or traces that show where I have been, that BaseCamp will import and recognize.
MapInstall Version 4.1.1 (4.1.1) and BaseCamp Version 4.2.4 (4.2.4)

2. Do all interactions except "send maps with MapInstall when done."  MapInstall crashes and creates an error report, which is followed by an Apple Error Report that states this, with the header and footer missing.

((When I start to try to find the file that is stated above, I can't find it..... at all.  So, I renamed a file, with a similar name and extension to the name listed above, reran MapInstall, but nothing gets resolved.))

3. The Nuvi will Display roads and traces, but not detailed maps. When I go into settings, then into maps, Then into Map Info, (if I am recalling the procedure correctly) it states that there isn't any detailed maps that are installed.  It used to display the 2013 City Navigator that I had installed on the sd card.

4. I called Garmin, again, and this time they were willing to try to help me resolve the problem.  They suggested the "hold the Power Button, while pressing the screen in the bottom right hand corner" which didn't work, but made me remember that I have tried that trick in the past, and it was difficult to make it get started in a reboot.

They did end the conversation with the typical, "You need to reload the Garmin software, you need to update your mac,.... etc."  I tried to tell them again, that I was the problem, and I really need the files, even via email, to put back into the Nuvi 5000.

5.  I have downloaded a number of  maps, from this web site, and they work great!!  I have been able to get BaseCamp to recognize them and then send them to my 64s.

6. I have been able to get GarminExpress to recognize the Nuvi 5000 and download a 2016.20 map into BaseCamp, but MapInstall creates an error when trying to send maps to the Nuvi 5000.  Garmin Express works fine with the 64s.  If I have the original files, I suspect that I will be able to load the 2016.2 file onto an SD card.

So, that is where I am...... I am REALLY hoping that someone on this forum has a better understanding as to what is going on, and can help me reload the Nuvi 5000, so that the MapInstall program will work correctly.

I kinda suspect that the Garmin update from 3.80 to 4.10 has something to do with this, too.

But I don't know, and really need someone's help.......

Please, be kind and limit the "Name calling" and "it's Bricked!"

Thanks, in advance.
