Using The Maps/Garmin Software / Configuring Profiles
January 25, 2012, 01:25:02 PM
Dakota 20 with City Navigator on SD card, with Georgia Topo installed internally.

If I am geocaching should I set up a profiel using CN for automotive to utilize the route to the cache and then set up a profile for geocaching by truning off CN and enabling the topo?

Right now all maps are enabled:  CN, Worldwide autoroute basemap, GA Topo, Worldwide Basemap and Digital Globe

What should I have enabled/disabled for an Auto profile or a Geocaching profile?

If I have GA topo do I need basemap and digital globe installed?

Trying to install Georgia topo. Ran installer, opened basecamp. I see Ga map in dropdown however it appears as a large blank white suqare in the center of the screen. Tried view, etc nothing changes. I did install My trails first and don't see anything there either other than small dots, cannot zoom in. Both maps are in drop down. Basemap can be seen fine. Seems a simple process not sure what I am doing wrong.

I plan on installing Georgia Topo as well as Georgia contours overlay and My Trails. I understand the GA contours and My Trails are both transparent. I'm using basecamp. When I install these 3 maps do I have to name all three differently to be used together?  What's the best way to do this. I will also at some point add S.C Topo and AZ topo, so as I understand they will need unique  .img file names to be enabled. These maps will be loaded on internal memory of Dakota 20.

Thanks for the help. D20 scheduled for delivery tomorrow.

Will the Dakota 20 handle multiple map files?

A few questions about adding maps to my new Dakota 20(first time user). If I install several state maps say Georgia and S.C. as well as My Trails, will My Trails  layer on top of both state maps? I had planned on putting the maps on the internal memory.

Also, if I install the state maps on an SD card and the My Trails map on the internal memory, will it be seen by the maps on the SD card?

Thanks

General Discussion / Dakota 20

Considering the purchase of Dakota 20.  If I purchase a 4g or 8g  SD cards what capacity of maps would these hold? I live in Georgia can I fit Southeast U.S. maps? What would you recommend to install?

Also trhoughts on the Dakota 20?

I have City Navigator NT that I received with my garmin GPS(Zumo 550). Can I use this to install on a Oregon 450? If so would the whole map fit and how would I do this?

My son got me  started on geocaching several months ago so I have ordered an Oregon 450. I opted to save money and not get the 450T(cheap I know).

I understand it comes only with a base map so what do I have to add to use the turn by turn features to get me close to the geocaches? Also once I start hunting I assume I switch to geocaching mode to find the caches, is there another map that has to be installed? I am in georgia. I'm pretty resourceful once pointed in the right direction. My son has the Garmin 62ST so he couldn't answer my questions on this matter.

Enjoy this forum. Thanks in advance
