Try removing ALL maps from your unit first. Now select just a small portion from one of the GPSFileDepot maps. Only select a portion of ONE map, do not combine it with anything else, and send to the GPS. Does that work?

Also, it's possible that there's something in the specific map file you're using that's causing a problem. I'd try the same thing with a couple maps just to rule that out.

Nope, already tried that, first with the Arkansas maps, then with SD topos.  Same result.

And it's not just that they won't display, it's that the unit won't even acknowledge they exist.  They aren't even listed on the page where you enable/disbale different .img files.

At this point I'm thinking I've got some weird profile issue introduced by either a prior owner or by Amazon trying to cover up the fact that there was a prior owner.  I took it hiking over the weekend to do some in the field comparisons with my 60Cx and when I went to download the tracks from the trip I found a track log from three months before I bought it 1000 miles away in New Hampshire.

First step is to get on the phone with Amazon, then depending on what happens there, trying to a hard reset on the unit to restore factory defaults and finding someone with all the original files for a 62 (can't trust the ones that came on mine.)

Garmin can be a bit particular about filenames sometimes. I suggest using names that only contain letters and numbers with no special characters and no blank spaces. Make sure the files have the .img extension and make sure they are in the \Garmin folder.

The file is in the Garmin folder and named gmapsupp just the way Mapsource sent the file there.  I didn't just copy from the 60, I did the load via Mapsource.

First I loaded Metroguide streets whcih I renamed metorguide, which is how it shows up when you are on the 62's select map screen.  Then I loaded the topos, which I left named gmapsupp, just the way Mapsource loaded them.  Only Metroguide (and the basemap) shows up in the select maps list.

I've loaded these several different ways at this point experimenting with different configurations of maps and the 62 completely ignores any uplaod that has exclusively 3rd party files, and only displays data from offficial maps in mixed uploads.

I'd be really surprised if Garmin has started interfering with third party maps... that would create a huge outcry.  :o

I'm surprised too, but it's looking more and more like it might be the case.

Did you upload the data for the area you are in, or panned to that area?  Did you zoom-in enough, i.e. to 800' or so?

Not 100% sure I zoomed in that far but I think I did.  Besides the topos show up even in the 5 mile setting on the 60....

GPSr Units / Garmin 62 ignores GPSfileDeopt maps

I have several topo maps I got here on GPSFileDepot that I have been using just fine in my 60Cx, but when I add them to the mapset for my new 62 it won't display them.

With the 60Cx all the maps were one big file (or you could manually re-name the gmapsupp.img file via usb and swap maps by manually renaming the one you wanted to use back to gmapsupp.img) then select which tiles to display or not display when you wanted to see certain map data, but the 62 allows you to load and re-name segments or states and then select between the ones displayed through the unit in the field...except non-garmin maps.

If I load only the GPSfileDepot topos, the gmapsupp.img file shows in the directory over the usb, but when you turn the unit on it doesn't see the file at all.  If I load even a single tile from an official garmin map, even something old like metroguide, it acknowledges the map set, but will only display the official maps.   (On my 60Cx the newest map would be on top and anything behind it would be hidden until you turned of the segments covering what you wanted to see)

I'm begining to think they've found a way to make the newer units ignore "unofficial" maps.

I've considered tryin to load them as custom maps, but haven't figured out that process yet.

Any help out there?
